Call for Applications for Partial Research funds for Masters Degree under the UPGRO Catalyst Grant
Applications are invited for Masters Partial Research funds for a Masters degree under the UPGRO Catalyst project: 'Towards groundwater security in coastal East Africa'. The project aims to develop coastal groundwater monitoring networks and multidisciplinary teams among the participating countries and research institutions. In Tanzania, the study site is in Kilwa Masoko, Kilwa Kivinje and Kilwa Kisiwani in Kilwa District, Lindi Region. Three spaces/ positions are available to undertake your dissertation at University of Dar es Salaam in the following three work packages (WP): WP1: Hydrogeology - Assessment of the current hydrogeologic conditions and the aquifer vulnerability to saline intrusion (geology, aquifer properties, groundwater flow and quality, recharge and abstraction) WP2: Hydrology/Climate and land use - Hydrological monitoring and modeling of the impacts of environmental change (precipitation, evapotranspiration, recharge, oceanic forcing, land use) WP3: Social and Environmental - Assessment of the socio-cultural-economic and environmental issues affecting water resources management Requirements: The applicant must be enrolled in Masters Programme at University of Dar es Salaam and should have completed the Masters coursework and should be ready to start the research study for writing the thesis. The following should be submitted: A research concept/proposal (5-10pages) including an abstract on one page (please include name and title of the proposal) and a detailed work plan on any of the three work packages focusing on Kilwa Masoko/Kivinje. Application letter indicating motivation to undertake research Letter from the Head of Department indicating that the student has completed coursework Recommendation letter of one academic referee Bachelors degree certificate and transcripts and Certified transcripts of the Masters coursework Copy of Valid student ID and a short 1 page CV
