3. Where is the best place to install the ‘Back –system archive’ and how much disk space does the
program require?
The best solution is to install the program on a disk or partition, which has the largest amount of
free disk space. The amount of the disk space, necessary for proper working of the ‘Back X-archive
system’, is equal to disk space, which is occupied by the total amount of archived file directories.
The ‘Back X-Configuration’ module has to be executed in order to configure properly the ‘Back X-
archive system’. The files, which will be archived, have to be added to the ‘edit list’. Next, the
information which is related to the parameters of the connection has to be added in the
‘configuration’ bookmark, in the following order:
5. Which of the program options in the ‘Back X-configuration’ module are compulsory, and which
are not?
• adding file directories, which are needed to be archived, to ‘edit list’ bookmark;
• adding specified parameters of the FTP connection, Server address, user and password to
the ‘configuration’ bookmark;
• adding the archive directory to the ‘configuration’ bookmark.
he ‘working directory’ is the user’s file directory, where all the data is sent and archived. The
system automatically directs and sends all the zipped information to the working directory. This
option is not required to be clearly defined– user can leave the spaces empty, in most cases.
However, if your FTP server requires entering the parameters of the ‘working directory FTP’, you
have to do it manually.
Entering a name of an archive is compulsory to copy and send the archive data to the FTP server.
The system automatically creates files with names of week days, and months. The program zips
and sends the data to the created files, at exact time and day.
This option is not necessary for proper working of the system. If you leave empty spaces in the
bookmark of: users e-mail, password e-mail server you will not receive any massages. The
messages are archived in the log directory, where ‘Back X-archive system’ is installed.
A message is sent on the indicated e-mail, after the archiving is done. The massage is sent as two
mails.
The headline of the massage consists of:
• from - backX@system
• subject – the name of the computer, where the archive is created, back X – archive system
log, and Error or OK.
The example content of each two e-mails begins with the following text:
--------------------------------BackX system archive -----------------------------
OS NAME: Windows XP
USER NAME: user
HOST ADDRESS IP: 10.1.51.172
HOST NAME: user-adfc0e9234234
• the mail log – OK encloses information about created archive in the exact day and sort of
archived files;
• the mail log – Error encloses information about any encountered problems during the
archiving.
You can test the program by clicking on the ‘Check Configuration’ button, which is placed in
‘configuration’ bookmark. The first configuration test should be conducted on small files (up to 2
mb). First, the test files are archived and sent to the FTP server. The ‘Back X-archive engine’ sends
a test massage on the e-mail.
The archive logs are stored in the log directory, where the ‘Back X-archive system’ is installed.
