Course Title Coordinating and Managing Supply Chains

Credits 3

Course Objectives Supply Chains are generally complex and characterized by numerous inter-firm and intra-firm dependencies. Firms ability to meet the strategic objectives of their supply chains largely depends on how each of the functions and the interfaces coordinate. There are many instances where the lack of coordination among various supply chain entities led to the poor performance of the supply chains. This course aims at understanding the role of coordination in supply chain management. This course also attempts to discuss the factors leading to lack of coordination and the mechanism that may improve the coordination in the supply chain. The main objectives of the course are To understand the role of coordination in supply chain management. To identify the causes of lack of coordination in supply chains. To explore the various coordination mechanism and their intended benefits. To appreciate the role of collaboration and integration in achieving supply chain coordination.

Course Details The course comprises seven modules: 1. Introduction to Supply Chain Coordination 2. Coordination Deficits in Supply Chain 3. Course Delivery: As this is a new course, it does not have a defined body of knowledge. The entire course will be delivered through the use of relevant research articles, magazine articles and case studies. Use of text book will only be complimentary. Practitioners sessions will be of great importance to understand the variety of coordination issues that exist in a typical supply chain.
