October 2 Integrals of Prayer

Integrals of prayer are divided into two kinds: Physical actions that need to be done And Spoken actions that need to be uttered

If either of these are neglected, then they havent been fulfilled

First integral: 1. Saying Allahu Akbar with the intention of entering the prayer while standing a. Takbir b. For a fard salat; if its non-obligatory, they can sit or lie down i. Unless its debilitating

First spoken Integral: Recite Al-Fatiha, and open by saying Bismillahir rahmanir Rahim Have to recite in every raka o Difference of opinion if praying behind imam, scholars differ if you still have to read if the imam is reciting Al-Fatiha o But Shafii say that you have to recite either way

Next: Bow down, minimally so your palms touch your knees Stay in that position for at least a second

Next: You have to stand straight

Next: Prostrate Have to put your forehead, nose, hands, knees, and balls of your feet against the floor Then sit up and do it again

All other things are sunnah: Saying Allahu Akbar after the opening one Reciting another chapter Subhannah-rabiyal azeem Subhannah-rabiyal allah

Fard and Sunnah Actions in a Raka (Unit of Prayer) Fard (Obligatory) Opening Takbir (Allahu Akbar) Recite Al-Fatiha (The Opening) Sunnah (Optional)

Recite another surah or set of verses Takbir Bow down so your palms touch your knees. Stay in that position for at least a second Say Subhannah Rabiyall Azeem (Glory to my Lord The Exalted) three times Say Samiallahu Liman Hamidah, Rabanna Lakal Hamd (Allah listens to him who praises Him. O our Lord, all praise it to you) Takbir

Return to standing position. Stand for at least a second.

Prostrate so your forehead, nose, hands, knees, and balls of your feet are against the floor Say Subhannah Rabiyall AAllah (Glory to my Lord Most High) three times Takbir Return to a kneeling position Takbir Return to prostration Say Subhannah Rabiyall AAllah (Glory to my Lord Most High) three times Takbir Stand up

Things that remove you from prayer: Intention to leave the prayer o Making sincere intention that they are not praying o Even something like if the phone rings Ill leave the prayer, then theyve already broken the prayer If a person speaks inside their prayer with words other than dhikr(remembrance), Quran, or dua o If someone walks in and they say hey. Speaking knowingly, then anything more than two letters will break the prayer. o However, if they speak unknowingly then its ok o However, if you break your prayer to prevent harm (i.e. prevent a child from touching a hot stove) then it is not sinful Or, say subhannalah loudly o If someone joins the salat late, then says salam thinking they are done and start talking, then as long as they just go back and finish their lost raka then theyre ok o If a person coughs without reason o Unless sick Laughing o Only if it makes noise o Only if you cant control it Movement o Too much movement. If you move a major body part more than three times successively (i.e. two steps forward, taking off jacket in middle of prayer o If youre moving forward to fill a gap, take a step and stop, then take a step and stop again If a person goes ahead of the imam in two major actions o I.e., Imam is standing and reading Quran, and the person bows then stands up, then its broken o Or lagging behind the imam too much o Saying salam before the imam breaks the salat If part of the aura becomes exposed, then it breaks the salat

Questions: Praying in the Wrong Direction If you pray in the wrong direction (like, obviously wrong) then pray again. But if you made your best effort to find out the prayer direction, then dont worry about it. Principle in Muslim Law: Theres a difference of opinion as to how reliable info essential to our worship is if coming from a nonMuslim. Of course, it depends on how serious they are.
