Part1

I have learned a lot about exponents. First I learned about repeated multiplication were you just multiply the number by itself. Then I learned about what powers mean. For example 3 to the power of 3 is 3*3*3. I also learned that a power is always the same number as the base. I learned the 3 ways to write exponents. The last thing I learned was how to d exponents with a calculator. Base= the regular number Power= how many times you are multiplying the base by itself Power and base tell what the number is and how many times to multiply it by itself A power is a shortcut to writing the times its self a lot of times Ex. 3*3*3*3*3 change to 3 to the 5th You can use geometry because if you think of a square with sides of 3 inches then to find the area you do 3*3. This is the same thing as with exponents

Start with 2 to the first power. As you increase the exponent, what operation is happening to the base? Multiplication

Starting with the exponent of 4, as you decrease each exponent, what operation is happening to the base? Division Now, decrease the exponent from 1 to 0 and using the pattern you have discovered, determine the value of 2 to the 0 power and fill in the table. Continue with this pattern to fill out the rest of the table. Double check your table. Does the pattern work from 2^-4 to 2^4 as the exponent increases each time? Yes Does the pattern work from 2^4 to 2^-4 as the exponent decreases each time? Yes

Part 3
1. What do you get when you add x by x? 2X 2. What do you get when you subtract x by x? 0 3. What do you get when you multiply x by x? X^2 4. What do you get when you divide x by x? 1 5. What do you get when you multiply x by x by x? X^3 6. What about x by x by x by x by x? X^5 7. What do you get when you multiply x^2 by x? X^3 8. What about when you multiply x^2 by x^3? X^5 9. What about when you multiply x^4 by x^6? X^10 10. Come up with a rule that explains what happens when you multiply same bases. You add the exponents together and use the same base 11. What about when you multiply x^4 by x^2? X^6 12. What do you get when you divide x^5 by x^3? X^2 13. What about when you divide x^6 by x? X^6 14. Come up with a rule that explains what happens when you divide same bases. You do the bigger exponent minus the smaller exponent and that is the exponent you use

15. What do you get when you square x^3? X^6 16. What do you get when you square x^4? X^8 17. What do you get when you cube x^2? X^6 18. What do you get when you raise x^3 to the fourth power? X^12 19. What do you get when you raise x^2 to the fifth power? X^10 20. Come up with a rule that explains what happens when you raise a base with an exponent by an exponent. You multiply the exponents together and keep the same base
