Ho iniziate ad esporre il mio primo Whippet
nel 1990. Era un nipote dei Ch. Beesekt Knight
Errunt o.f Silkstene e Ch. Nevedith Paper
Weiglû, era di qualità non elevata, ma un com-
pagno meraviglioso e mi condusse verso una
più approfondita conoscenza della razza.
Iscrivendolo a1leesposizioni in Francia, scoprii
il piacere di presentare e fui deflnitivamente
rapita. Guardando i cani esposti in quel periodo
fui particolarmente colpita dagli Whippets du
Manoir de la Grenouillere ed infine mio marito
comprô per me un cucciolo allevato dalla
Sig.ra Jackie Bourdin, che si chiamava
Flamboyant dtt Manoir de Ia Grenottillere, (era
fratello di cucciolata del futuro campione F/,1,
tlu Munoir de La Grenouillere, di proprietà del-
l'allevamento Almanser della Sig.ra Kiack in
Germania).

dici. Non era un cane adatto ad un novizio, ma
ugualmente vinse 2CACs, 2RCACs e 1 RCA-
CIB per mia soddisfazionee mi coinvolse nelle
corse e nei coursing. Sviluppando il mio gusto
per il tipo favorito, decisi quale era il Whippet

elegante. Trovammo quello che stavamo cer-
cando nel giovane cucciolo Hadrien du Manoir
g de la Grenottillere, che acquistammo ad undici
E settimane di età. Nasceva dal Ch. Normandy

Ë metodo di selezione ci ha insegnato la strada

Allevata dalla Sig.ra Dorianne Bernard, figlia
de1 cane importato dall'Inghilterra Novacro.ft
Emperor e della ben nota multi Ch. Almaglo
Reinalle, "Billie" si è unita a noi dopo la tragi-
ca scomparsa della sua allevatrice. Con me ha
finito 3 campionati che 1a Sig.ra Bernard aveva
iniziato.
Attualmente sto esponendo Jttliette du Manoir
de la Grenouillere. Nasce dal multi Ch. French
King du Manoir de Ia Grenouillere e da una
lig1ia di Hillsdown MoLIie. Jus-Jus ha bisogno
di un solo CAC per diventare campione tede-
sco ed adora anche il coursing, in effetti ha
vinto I'anno scorso 2 RCACP.
Qual'è il cane piît importante per il suo alleva-
ntento e perchè I'ha scelrc?
Hadrien è il mio cane fbndatore e quello che
considero la pietra miliare del mio allevamento
e I'ho scelto per il sue pedigree anglo-america-
no.
Cosa pensa circa le dffirenze fra gli Whippet
inglesi ed umericani e qual'è la struttura.fisictt
del cane da esposiTioneper lei ideale?
Seconde me le differenze tra gli Whippet ingle-
si ed americani non possono che far bene alla

combinare i due tipi con successo.Lo stessoè

difetti ereditari di ctri preoccuparsi?
La tendenza ad avere maggiore lunghezza dei
lombi qualche volta produce linee dorsali piat-
te; un eccessodi angolazioni potrebbe condur-
re 1a razza verso la displasia dell'anca e pare
che le mandibole forti si siano perse per la stra-
da. Molti Whippet di oggi mancano di forza
nelle mandibole cosi che non possonepiù pren-
dere i1 coniglio per ucciderlo; che è proprio
quel1o che 1o standard richiede.
Certamente Lei ha la sua preferen4a riguardo il
colore, ad ogni mctdo pensa che è re(tlmente
"sen7a imporîan7n" o puà influenTure Iu deci-
sione del giudice?
Penso che il colore del mantello è veramente
senza importanza ed i neri ed i blù stanno fio-
rendo in molti paesi. Purtroppo le pezzature
cambiano realmente f impressione generale e
possono influenzare la decisione de1giudice.
In molti paesi è cosi comune offrire a1 giudice
il lato da esposizione del nostro Whippet piaz-
zando ogni soggetto neila stessadirezione,
invece, io penso, potrebbe esseremeglio se al
presentatorefosse permesso di scegliere il lato
del cane che sta presentandoche
mostra le migliori pezza1u]re.
Qttali sono Ie sue maggictri considerazioni
quando decide di iscrivere i suoi cuni ctlle
esposiz.ioni?
Valuto sempre se il giudice è un all-rounder o
uno specialista della razza. Spesse preferisco
esporre i miei cani con specialisti che posseg-
gono una conoscenza più approfondita del tipo
dellarazza e ne seguono l'evoluzione.
Cosa pensa dell'inbreeding, linebreeding ed
outcrossittg, cosa ricerca în uno stallone e in
una fottricc qutrndo progeftct i suoi programmi
Ji allevarnanto e qrnli sono i suui piani come
alLevatoreper il prossimo futuro?
Ritengo che f inbreeding funziona solo se
attuato da allevatori esperti che conoscono
molto bele le iinee di sangue che hanno inten-
zione di usare. Gli scandinavi amano l'outcross
ed hanno prodotto tanti campioni adoperando
 quel metodo. Il linebreeding è un buon com-
promesso per fissare la qualità generale di una
stirpe, la strada migliore per fissare il tipo che

si sta ricercando nel proprio ceppo. -

Per ciô che riguarda la scelta di uno stallone o - t
di una fàttrice, penso che il maschio deve avere " * -" - ; .

mediocrità, la femmina, se possibile. dovrebbe
venire da linee di sangue imparentate. I miei

Cibo ed allenamento, sembra .funzionar bene

per oyere un Whippet vincitore, co.sa adopent
per nutrire i suoi Whippet e cone allena i cuc-
cioLi ed a che età comincia?
Nutro i miei Whippet (compreso il mio bassot-
to salvato dall'abbandono) due volte al giorno
con i prodotti bilanciati, disponibiti su1merca-
to. Inizio ad allenare i cuccioli per il ring
all'età di sei settimane, ma solo per pochi
minuti al giorno.
Quali grandi Whippet del.passato e del presen-
te (rpprezaa maggiormente e perchè?
I miei idoli del passato sono il Ch. Oukbark
MidclLeman, il Ch. Morsher Majestic DelL e lo
stupendo Ch. Beau Mec du Manoir tle la
Greneuillere per il loro perfetto, bilanciato
potere muscolare e forza. Trovo anche molto
affascinanti le femmine Ch. Nutshell of
Neveditlt e Ch. Emotion dtt Mttnoir de Ia
Grenouillere, che combinano grande eleganza
e grazia di linee. Recentementesono stata stre-
gata dal Ch. Jctke du Manoir d.e la
G renouille re, attualmente di proprietà dell'al-
levamento Rivarco del Sig. Turrini, per il suo
grande "tocco di classe" ed eccezionale movi-

mento. Un altro splendido soggetto con qualco-
sa di speciale è 1l Ch. Homo Sapiens du Sac à
Malices allevato dalla Sig.ra Mèsavage.
Durante il tempo che .çi è interessata dellu
razz.a ha conosciuto importanti aLlevatori; chi
di loro ritiene sia stato piit importttnte per
tnantenere e increnentore le qualitti deLla
razzl?
Secondo me 1a Sig.ra Bourdin è in effètti la più
importante allevatrice in Europa. Ha prodotto
cosi tanti Whippet straordinari che difficilmen-
te puô essere messa in second'ordine. In
Inghilterra apprezzo particolarmente I'al leva-
mente Dunaruna del Sig. Burton, basato princi-
palmente sul ceppo Carmodian.
So che lei è un'ctrtistadi taLentoed ha recente-
mente scelto gli Whippet come modelli dei suoi
lavori, potrebbe dire clualcosnsu questa espe-
rie nz.a?
Il mio lavoro artistico contiene molti ritratti di
Whippet. La mia passione per la razza mi ha
permesso di trascorrere molte ore dipingendo i
m i e i c a n i e d a n c h eq r n l c u n oe o r n m i : s i Ù n a t o
da1suo proprietario.
Recentemente la Whippet Rescue Inglese, ha
usato alcuni dei miei dipinti per illustrare 1e
loro cartoline ed oggetti ricordo.

Mrs. Potricio George began showing Whippets in
1990, breeding them with the Xcess prefix. She
hos been gainingwith her dogs severolchompion-
shiô titles since then ond is well known in the
show rings in France,where she lives,and obrood.

type, I made up my mind about what was the
Whippet I most liked: it had to be classic and
elegant. We found what we were looking for
in the young puppy Hadrien du Manoir de lo
Grenouillere, whom we bought at eleven weeks
of age. He was by Ch. Normandy SociolStonding
- a Ch. Delocreme de Io Rento's son out of a
Ch. SondlenoAstronomer's daughter. Hadrien
started his show career off by winning Best
J u n i o r i n S h o w a t a G e r m a n S i g h t h o u n dm e e -
ting and got his first CACIB at 15 months of
age. He then won the Open class, out of 38,
under Mr. Kennet Edth (Sweden), at our
Nationale d'Elevagebecoming Vice Champion
de France | 994. So far, at five years of age,
H o d r i e n h a s f i n i s h e d 5 C h a m p i o n s h i p s ,i n c l u -
ding 2 Group at all breed International Shows.
What do you think obout the differencesbetween
the Englishand the American Whippets ond whot
is the physicalstructure ofyour îdeol show dog?
In my opinion the differences between the
Englishand American Whippets can only
improve the breed quality. The famous French
Kennel Du Sac a Malices,owned by Mrs.
Karen Mèsavagehas proven that it is possible
to mix the two types with success.Ïhe same
is true for Mrs. Jackie Bourdin, whose careful
breeding has taught us the way of intelligent
outcross using the exçeptional American stud
DK Ch. Normondy Sociol Stonding.Finally, as
for my ideal Whippet I especially like what is
'show
considered a dog': a stallionlike dog
with eleganceand power.

I started showing my first Whippet in 1990.

He was a Ch. Beeseko Knight Erront of Silkstone
and Ch. Nevedith Poper Weight grand son. He
was only of pet quality but a wonderful com-
panion and led me to a deeper knowledge of
the breed. Entering that dog in the shows in
France I discovered the pleasureof handling
and was definitely hooked. Looking at the
show dogs exhibited in those days I was parti-
cularly struck by the Du Manoir de la
Grenouillere Whippets and eventually my
husband purchaseda puppy for me bred by
Mrs. Jackie Bourdin whose name was
Flomboyontdu Manoir de Io Crenouillere,(he was
the full brother of the later Ch. FIy du Monoir
d e 1 a G r e n o u i l l e r e ,o w n e d b y M r s . K i a c k ' s
A l m a n s o r K e n n e li n G e r m a n y ) .
A little bit heavy in bone, the judges didn't like
him at all. He was not a dog for a novice hand-
ler, but he won just the same; 2CACs,
2RCACs and I RCACIB to my joy, and invol-
ved me in racing and lure coursing as well.
