Hey

DeGroote! For those of you who I have not yet had the pleasure to meet, my name is Susan Buchanan. I come from Western University, where I completed both a Bachelor and Masters degree. Choosing McMaster for my MBA was a no-brainer. I wanted to leverage my education in Engineering to build a strong connection to industry, and what better way than through the co-op program. Though co-op could be the first taste of the real world for some of us fresh graduates, I think building our professional network is considered one of the most important aspects by all DeGroote MBA students. As we have heard time and time again, its all about who you know! We have to admit, our class, colleagues and alumni will be among the most important members of our network when we leave the RJC. Thus, we need to consider what will grow our list of whos. The position of Social Director on the MBAA is among the most important what during our time at DeGroote. This individual must be extremely organized and connected to facilitate events accessible to all students. It is more than just throwing parties. It is creating engaging and exciting events, both within the DeGroote family, and within the community. It is making sure that each student has a chance to hit up sick parties, but also has a chance to evolve their resume through community service. It is how you will build the biggest and strongest professional network possible. Throughout my last two degrees, I have performed over 290 hours of community service. In fact, leaving highschool, I won a national prize Millenium Excellence for my academic and community achievement, totaling over 430 hours. Not only do I understand what you need in terms of community involvement, I believe I might know a thing or two about social events. Attending all events to date, and even throwing a few of my own, I understand the networking needs of students. I have a grasp on where these events need to be held, and how to get every student excited. For those of you that know me, there is nothing I love more than a good party. Let me be the what that grows your list of whos. Let me plan the events. Let me throw the parties. Let me bring alumni and industry leaders to you. Let me be responsible for the most important part of your MBA education. Let me build your network! Build your WHO, vote Social SUE
