Overview: New Features

Q: What is new in the WTOS 6.2 Release?

A: The key new features/updates include:

– ICA Features
– Support for SpeedScreen Multimedia Acceleration (Citrix RAVE-based)
– Smartcard authentication through PNAgent
– Session Reliability
– Smartcard authentication with Leostream Connection Broker
– XenDesktop Support
– VDM 2.1 Support
– TCX License Parameter in GUI

Please see Release Notes for full list of fixed issues as well as known issues in WTOS 6.2

Q: What is Speedscreen Multimedia Acceleration (Rave)?

A: Citrix's “Rave” technology allows multimedia content to be streamed uncompressed from a XenApp
Server directly to the ICA client where the local processor is used to decode the file. Using this
technology, the content is as sharp and smooth as a PC and CPU utilization on the server is lower than
when content is streamed without using Rave.

Q: I thought WTOS already supported Multimedia Acceleration? What is new?

A: Previous versions of WTOS provide users smooth multimedia through Wyse’s own TCX Multimedia
Acceleration technology (using Wyse client and server software). However, now users have the option of
using Citrix Rave technology which does not require any additional software to be installed on the Citrix
server side.

Q: How do I know which one is best for me?

A: See table below for supported functionalities of each technology.

Q: Can the two technologies co-exist? Is there any value to using both?

A: Yes, and Wyse recommends that TCX Multimedia Redirection (MMR) be used to ‘enhance’ multimedia
experience beyond Rave functionality. When both MMR and RAVE are activated, RAVE will be used for
codecs it supports and MMR will take will take over to provide the enhanced functionality outlined above.

Q: Are all the required codecs pre-installed in my firmware? Are there any additional steps to
activate them?

A All the codecs mentioned above are already in WTOS firmware, but are not activated unless proper
licensing fees have been paid. Multimedia Acceleration requires the codecs on the local client to be
activated, regardless whether it is Citrix RAVE or Wyse TCX technology. To activate these codecs, you
will need to purchase a Multimedia license from Wyse and place the license key after a “TCXLicense=”
parameter in the wnos.ini file.

Q: How do I enable Citrix RAVE support?

A: By default, when the Multimedia license is activated, WTOS will rely on TCX MMR for all multimedia
acceleration. However, if you wish to activate Citrix RAVE support simple put the following line in your
wnos.ini file:

EnableRAVE=yes

Q: What if I don’t want to use Citrix RAVE? Can I force WTOS to only use TCX Multimedia
Acceleration?

A: By default, RAVE support is not activated so simply ignoring the parameter will force WTOS to use
TCX MMR. Note that the TCX MMR server side component needs to be installed for TCX Multimedia
Acceleration to work.

Q: What if I don’t want to use Wyse TCX Multimedia Acceleration? Can I force WTOS to only use
Citrix RAVE?

A: Keep in mind that MMR is recommended to be used as an ‘enhancer’ to the Citrix RAVE
implementation in WTOS since it has greater support and functionality. However, if you have already
activated the MMR license and the RAVE functionality and do not want to use MMR features, then you
simply need to verify that the MMR server side component has not been installed.

Q: What is new with smartcard support through Citrix?

A: Previous versions of WTOS have had smartcard support, but only for connection inside an ICA/RDP
connection. WTOS 6.2 has added smartcard authentication into PNAgent, enabling users to retrieve their
list of connections quickly and securely. The same smartcard can be used to authenticate into
applications inside an ICA/RDP as before, enabling a complete login experience through a single
smartcard.
Q: Can I use any smartcard to authenticate with PNAgent?

A: Only the Aladdin Etoken Pro card is supported for authenticating into PNAgent

Q: What smartcard reader is supported?

A: The internal smartcard reader is recommended, though most CCID compliant smartcard readers will
work. There is a known limitation with the Aladdin Etoken Pro card where it will not work with the
ActiveIdentity smartcard reader.

Q: Do I have to use specific middleware to import the certificate for authentication in PNAgent?

A: No. The ‘user’ certificate that is used for PNAgent authentication is not dependant on any specific
vendor’s certificate syntax. You can use open source software (i.e. “opensc”) to load the certificate onto
the card. Please refer to the Wyse Knowledge Base (https://support.wyse.com/OA_HTML/jtfavald.jsp) for
a brief Technote on this.

Q: What about any other connection brokers?

A: WTOS 6.2 also includes smartcard authentication into a Leostream connection broker using an
Identiphi smartcard.

Q: What is Session Reliability?

A: With the session reliability feature, users continue to see a published application’s window if the
connection to the application experiences an interruption (i.e. entering a tunnel, wireless signal lost, etc)
and will seamlessly be returned to their session upon regaining connectivity without having to re-enter
their credentials. In essence, their session on the server is kept active and all screen changes are
buffered and sent to the client upon gaining connectivity.

For more information about Session Reliability, refer to the following Citrix Knowledge Base article:
http://support.citrix.com/article/CTX104147

Q: Is Session Reliability enabled by default? How do I enable/disable it?

A: Session Reliability is disabled by default. It can be enabled through the GUI through a checkbox at the
ICA Connection Manager or from through the “SessionReliability” INI parameter.

Q: How do I connect to XenDesktop using WTOS if there is no browser?

A: XenDesktop uses the same parameter and configuration as is currently done with PN Agent/Lite
Servers.
• With INI: PnliteServer=List of {IP address, DNS names or URLs} in wnos.ini
• With UI: the settings can be found in System Setup -> Network -> Servers, fill the XenDesktop
Server address into the “PN Agent/Lite Server” blank.

Q: What new features in VDM 2.1 are relevant to WTOS?

A: WTOS supports both the multiple VM and password change features of VDM 2.1.

Q: In what format do I enter the TCX License in the GUI? How do I input multiple licenses (i.e.
MMR, USB, etc)?

A: The syntax of the TCX License field in the GUI should be the same as that of the TCX License
parameter in the INI file. One TCXLicense Key can be composed of “0-9” “a-z” “A-Z”, in “xxxxx-xxxxx-
xxxxx-xxxxx-xxxxx” format. No need to be in UPPERCASE

More than one license key can be accepted at the same time. Different keys should be delimited by a
comma.

If the TCX License already exists in the INI file, it will be populated in this field after each boot.
