Making and Keeping Commitments
Sundays | August 2, 9 & 16 | Room 108 | 6PM
NOTES
By Joe Lightfoot, Pastor of Adult Ministries Sunday, July 26, 2009
9:10AM Celebration | 10:45AM The River
On my shelf is a book titled “The
Pastor Mike Rose
Starter Marriage.” In the book, social Series: Pray Like Jesus
researcher Pamela Paul has compiled Title: Jesus Prays for Himself
data on why young people are jump-
ing into and out of marriages—often
to trade up to “something better.” In treating a starter-marriage
like a starter-home, couples can learn a lot about what to look for
and what to avoid the next time around.
Unfortunately, in our disposable society attitudes like this
are commonplace. Making and then breaking commitments has
become the fabric of many lives. It should not be so for people
who have trusted in Jesus. In fact, Matthew, who wrote the first
book in the New Testament, upheld the value of your commit-
ment, of your word. He wrote, “Let your ‘Yes’ be ‘Yes’ and your
‘No’ be ‘No.’”
One commitment you can make and stand by is the commit-
ment to become a member of the church. Our Fellowship Entry
Point class can assist you in taking this step. If you would like to
explore making this commitment to this church you can sign up
for the August 2, 9 & 16 class (6PM | Room 108) on the Care &
Communication Card today.

Splash Party
Sunday, July 19
Ahhh…a midsummer’s evening in Iowa…plenty of sunshine
and gentle breezes. What a perfect time for a Federated party at
the Clive Aquatic Center! (Okay, so the temperature was a little
cooler than might be expected in July, but the water was FINE.)
Over 350 hearty folks had a great time cruisin’ on the lazy river,
splashing in the kiddie pool, trying a new dive off the boards,
flying down the water slides or just soaking in some rays on a
comfy chair. See you next July?
