5 Committe learnt that Government Policy providing transport facility for habitations having more than 1000 people was not implemented fully due to insufficient funds provided to the District Collectors for development works including road improvements. Hence, Committe recommends to the Government for considering provision of transport facility to habitations having more than 1000 population in particular necessary fund allocation.

6 In the financial year 1996-97 Rs.1900 lakhs has been allocated for improving the bus route roads and the amount has been utilised fully. In financial year (1997-98) Rs.3939.95 lakhs has been allocated for improving the bus routes. This allocation includes Rs.3596.35 lakhs of NABARD loan assistance and Rs.343.6 lakhs of Non-NABARD State Government funds. This allocation in 1997-98 is more than double of the allocation 1996-97 (H&MP note 1219/V/97-5/ Dt:02.03.1998.)

7 Committee has understood that in the financial year 1996-97 & 1997-98 sufficient funds have been allocated for improving the road to facilitate the Motor transportation and the same is fully utilised. committe wants to know that whether the area in the operating jurisdiction has been benefitted due to the above fund allocation and whether the transport facility has been provided for all habitations having more than 1000 population.

8 In the financial year 1996-97 & 1997-98 the Government allocated sufficient funds for improving the road. The area in the operating jurisdiction has been benefitted. The villages having population more than 1000 and not having transport facility and the reasons given below : (Attachment 1)

10 The number of villages not having transportation facilities have been given in 14 districts. The name of the villages are not specified. The present status of the roads can be informed only if the name of the villages are known. These details have been requested from Zonal Transport Offices and the details are not yet received. The name list of villages have been requested from the Transport Department. The reply will be furnished after receipt of name list of villages.
