Should you be elected, what are three specific areas youd like to change, address, improve or further research, and how specifically would you go about it? I dont have a particular agenda that Im attempting to advance. Should I be elected, I will address each issue that comes before the board with an open mind and strive to make decisions that will benefit the children of the district and the greater community. To help voters learn more about my mindset, I will share my perspective on two district issues: International Baccalaureate and the potential K-12 campus.

I do support the existing International Baccalaureate program. I believe that it is critical that our children develop the ability to appreciate broader perspectives in order to be effective members of our ever-changing society. I work for a nonprofit organization in Cleveland that strives to strengthen the community by supporting manufacturing and related businesses. One of the greatest challenges manufacturing firms face is finding qualified workers. Though having solid math and reading skills is still absolutely critical, workers of the next generation need to be prepared to offer the greater flexibility that this kind of education helps promote. One of the biggest issues our district now faces is the decision to move to a single K-12 campus. As a community member and parent, I attended several informational meetings last year to ensure I was informed about the process and registered my concerns and ideas. Though I am still open to other options, the concept of a single K-12 campus makes sense to me, especially since the current buildings are insufficient and inefficient. I believe that the concerns I heard raised about the age differences can be effectively managed through building design and clear expectations for student behavior. Whether for past accomplishments or future goals, why should voters elect you? I am a graduate of this district who values the education I received and the environment in which I developed. Now as a resident and parent, I feel it is my responsibility to help ensure the district thrives for the benefit of this generation of kids and for the community as a whole. My pledge to the voters of Oberlin is that I will consider all issues that come before the board with an open mind and critical eye. My goal will be to make the best decisions for the kids and wider community. I take my commitments seriously. Though I have not been elected, I have already attended a workshop run by the Ohio School Boards Association designed to set appropriate expectations for school board members. I will continue to educate myself about my responsibilities to ensure that I effectively serve our community.
