GENERAL PLANT SPESIFICATION MSBDs 690V

Introduction to power plant The main switchboards 690V consist of two busbars: 690 V busbar no. 1 690 V busbar no. 2 The busbars are located in two separate switchboards construction and separated by a bustie breaker in each switchboard. MSB 690V 1 & 2 are feeding the distribution switchboards SWBD_440/230V 1 & 2 via power transformers. MSB 690V 1 & 2 is also connected to the emergency swbd via a bustie breaker on each side.

2.2

Construction MSB 1 & 2 690V MSB 690V 1 & 2 are made in the Cubic modular switchboard system and is rated for Icw 80 KA & Ipk 176 kA. Icw is the withstand current and Ipk is the peak current. The rating applies for 1 second. The moulded case circuit breakers also have a limitation of Icu 80/Icm 176 kA. The 690V main switchboards consist of twenty-four panels numbered 1 to 24. 1 to 12 is located in MSB 1, and 13 to 24 are located in MSB 2. The switchboards are supplied by 6 generators. 4 large and 2 small ones. 2 large and one small generator are supplying MSB 1 and the same applies for MSB 2. Due to too high short circuit level when 4 large generators runs in parallel, there are installed a generator blocking system to block the remaining generators when 3 large and one small generator are connected (see chapter 3.2).

General characteristic 690V SWBDs Main switchboard 690V is arranged for paralleling main generators. The switchboard can be manually operated when switch Local/Remote is set to Local, in front of panels where the respective generators and bustie breakers are mounted. The switchboards can also be automatic operated from PMS system when switch Local/Remote is set to remote. Restart after blackout is performed by PMS system. The switchboard is supplied by the main generators. There are three main generators connected to each busbar. Generator no. 1-2-3 are connected to busbar no. 1 and generator 4-5-6 are connected to busbar no. 2. The heavy consumers are connected to MSB 690V. The largest consumers are the thrusters for manoeuvring of the ship. There are two main propulsion thrusters, two bow tunnel thrusters, one stern tunnel thruster and one retractable thruster. If bustie breaker is closed a limitation on number of generators connected to the switchboard is controlled by a PLC-system. The number of generators connected when bustie breaker is closed is limited to: 2x3000 kVA generators + 2x2000 kVA generator 3x3000 kVA generators

When limitation is reached further closing of generator breakers are blocked. A lamp in respective panels will indicate if the breaker is blocked from closing If the bustie breaker is open all generators can be connected to the switchboard. In this case closing of the bustie breaker will be blocked. A lamp in the bustie panel for bustie breaker no.1 will indicate if the breaker is blocked from closing. 2.4 Is-limiter There is no Is-limiter in this switchboard

2.5

Arc guard There is no arc guard in this switchboard

OPERATING INSTRUCTION FOR MAIN SWITCHBOARDS 690V

Operating introduction The generator breakers can be synchronised and connected to the switchboard by following methods: Local (manually) by means of synchronoscope Remote (automatic) by means of Power Management System.

The bustiebreaker 1 can be synchronised and connected by following methods: Local (manually) by means of synchronoscope Remote (automatic) by means of Power Management System.

Load sharing mode is isochronous. NB! Bustie breaker 2 needs to be connected before synchronizing bustie breaker 1. 3.2 Generator protection All generators are protected with generator protection according to classification rules. Protection for generator consists of three modules: Generator Protection Unit (GPU): Overcurrent, reverse power, fast overcurrent (trips bustie breaker 1 or 2 or both) and high voltage (only in use when there is only 1 generator connected) Short circuit protection (RMC 111D) Differential guard (RMC 131D) Generator protection units are placed in respective generator panels. When an alarm occurs it will be indicated either by pilotlamps (Short circuit protection and differential guard) or on display (GPU-alarms). To reset short circuit protection or diff. guard a pushbutton in front of the panel is to be pushed in and hold for about 5 sec. Separate reset on display for GPU. To avoid damage on equipment the fault causing the guard to trip breaker must be removed before the guards are reset. 3.3 Heating in generators Heating can be turned off/on from generator panels. It will automatic be turned off when the generator breaker is closed. 3.4 Operating of generator breakers in LOCAL In Local it is possible to operate rpm for engines, to synchronise and connect or to unload and disconnect generators. Pushbuttons, switches and pilot lamps for operating of generator breakers are placed in each generator panels. There is a switch in each generator panel to select Local/Remote When the switch is set in Local generator breaker is operated from switchboard. a) If the busbars is dead the generator breaker can be connected directly in by pushing the In pushbutton and the bypass pushbutton simultaneous.

b) Generator breakers can be synchronized and connected by means of synchronoscope. Rpm is manually regulated with the rpm-switch (increase/decrease) in front of panel, if necessary. When the generator is synchronous with the grid, push the In pushbutton and hold until the synchronoscope can connect the breaker. c) Unloading and disconnecting of generator is done by pushing the Unload pushbutton. Hold the pushbutton to complete the unload sequence. When the generator has been unloaded to a pre-set kW-value on the GPU the generator breaker will be disconnected. 3.5 Operating of generator breakers in REMOTE In Remote the generator breakers are operated from PMS. a) Connecting/synchronizing of generators is controlled by PMS. When requested upon to increase power to the grid the PMS will give an in signal to a relay and the breaker connects. Synchronizing and connecting of the breaker will be performed by synchronizer unit (in the GPU) and relays in the switchboards. b) Unloading and disconnection of breaker is controlled by PMS. When requested upon to decrease power to the grid the PMS will give a signal to a relay in the switchboards and starts the unload sequence. When the generator has been unloaded to a pre-set kW-value on the GPU the generator breaker will be disconnected. 3.6 Operation of bustie breaker 1 in MSB in LOCAL There is one bustie breaker in main switchboard 1 690V. It is located in Panel 9 and named Q901. In Local, the breaker can be operated from the switchboard. a) With one dead busbar the bustie breaker can be closed directly by pushing the In pushbutton and bypass pushbutton simultaneous. Note! It is interlocked against the bustie breaker 2 in main switchboard 2 690V, this means that bustie breaker 2 needs to be connected before bustie breaker 1 can be connected. The reason for this is; it isn`t possible to synchronize bustie breaker 2, only bustie breaker 1. Bustie breaker 1 can be synchronized by means of a synchronoscope. RPM are regulated manually on each generator in generator panels as described in chapter 3.1. When both busbars are synchronous push the In pushbutton and hold until the synchronoscope can connect the breaker. The bustie breaker can be disconnected by the out pushbutton in front of the switchboard.

b)

c) 3.7

Operation of bustie breaker 1 in MSB 1 in REMOTE There is one bustie breaker in main switchboard 1 690V. It is located in Panel 9 and named Q901. In Remote the breaker is operated from the PMS. a) PMS will control synchronizing and command breaker in or out. Synchronizing and breaker commands from PMS are performed by relays in the switchboard. PMS can also connect the breaker directly if there is dead busbar on one side of the bustie breaker; the bustiebreaker 2 in MSB 2 needs to be connected before this can be done. See chapter 3.6 a) and 3.8 a)b) for how the bustie breaker 2 shall be operated to make this possible.

3.8

Operation of bustie breaker 2 in MSB 2 in LOCAL There is one bustie breaker in main switchboard 2 690V. It is located in Panel 16 and named Q1601. In Local mode, the breaker can be operated from the switchboard. a) It can be connected by the pushbutton in front of the panel. This breaker is normally connected, but can be disconnected due to either fast overcurrent guard in the GPUs, BPS, or from the PMS (performed by a relay in swb.) . If this breaker trips the bustie breaker 1 in MSB 1 also trips. It is possible to connect it again by PMS. Note! The reason for why the breaker tripped must of course be found. And the guards who tripped the breaker must be reset before connecting it again. It is not possible to use this breaker to synchronize the two busbars together. The bustie breaker can be disconnected by the out pushbutton in front of the switchboard. It is possible to both connect and disconnect this breaker under a blackout situation in Local, because it has 24VDC in and out coils.

b) c) d)

3.9

Operation of bustie breaker 2 in MSB 2 in REMOTE There is one bustie breaker in main switchboard 2 690V. It is located in Panel 15 and named Q1501. In Remote mode the breaker is operated from the PMS. a) This breaker is normally connected, but can be disconnected due to either fast overcurrent guard in the GPUs, BPS, or from the PMS (performed by a relay in swb.). It is possible to both connect and disconnect this breaker under a blackout situation in Remote, because it has 24VDC in and out coils.

b) c)

3.10

Operation of thruster breakers The breakers supplying propulsion thruster switchboards (AFE) are equipped with UVT coils so the breakers will trip if a blackout should occur. The breakers cannot be operated from main switchboard. Operation is only possible from the related drive cabinets. The breakers are not operated from PMS, only indication/status is given to PMS.

3.11

Operation of supply breakers to heavy consumers The breakers supplying heavy consumers can only be operated from the switchboard front with pushbuttons.

3.12

Operation of other breakers Remaining breakers are operated by operating the levers on the breakers to on/off.
