It goes into greater detail about the risks of drinking and doing drugs, and the potential harm to not only themselves, but to the fetus as well. It also discusses what each drug specifically does to the unborn baby, and what one can do to prevent this (treatment). Irene Alton the author of this article, is a nutritionist and she is also a lecturer at the School of Public Health Institution in the epidemiology department. She also wrote various chapters in an academic book named Nutrition and the Pregnant Adolescent therefore reinforcing her credibility.

In this article, it highlights the harms to pregnant women that are associated with and consume various forms of illicit drugs and alcohol. There are various case studies that are conducted that focus on substance abuse during pregnancy, and examined specific data about each of the birth mothers. The article then goes into more detailed information about the specific causes as to why women consume alcohol and illicit drugs while pregnant. The author of the article, Suena Massey is an assistant professor in psychiatry and behavioural science at the Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine. She has written various academic articles on topics such as the psychological differences between smokers who quit during pregnancy and those who dont, and addictive behaviours. She also has her MD from Weil Medical College of Cornell University therefore making her a credible source.
