DOCTORATE PROGRAMS by NSSIB The doctorate program ensures a methodological base level understanding necessary to approach research & management issues at the frontier of knowledge, enabling participants to understand, design and implement research projects across the broad subjects of investment banking, strategy & family office management. This is achieved through the right mix of full time courses, seminars, electives, book reviews, live projects and field studies within Indus Institute and in collaboration with other leading bodies, interacting with scholars & under the guidance of a strong board of guides and advisors. The program emphasizes rigorous training in both quantitative and qualitative methods of research. This PhD is a 2-year plus program designed for highly qualified and motivated students. The program is multidisciplinary in nature and students have the option to choose from a wide range of electives, and are also given great mentorship and support throughout their time at iiibsr. First-year students acquire a broad set of theoretical and methodological skills relevant to various fields in economics and finance, while in the second year they choose their field of specialization. PhD classes are enriched by the interaction among students from all over the world, with backgrounds not only in economics and finance, but also other
disciplines such as engineering and statistics. And regular seminars held by internationally renowned internal and external faculty. Programme objectives The PhD program offered by NSSIB is a research-oriented programme which trains participants to serve as the architects of the asset management, family office, brokerage and investment banking industries. The programme is designed to prepare talented individuals for challenges requiring an integrated view of the inner-workings of financial markets & institutions, a thorough understanding of financial decision-making based on modelling techniques and the ability to independently identify, analyse, and research to come up with creative solutions to problems. Participants undertake the PhD as a critical development step towards senior management and board positions in the financial industry or, when they already hold such positions, to steer their organisations in new directions. Participants even undertake doctoral studies to access academic careers in leading research and educational institutions.
Doctorate programme, three tracks, Multiple Choices Doctorate in Investment Banking / Doctorate in Strategy / Doctorate in Family Office Management In Investment Banking we offer multiple choices including. M & A, Joint Ventures, Fund Management, Cross Border Trades, Investment Management, IPO, SME finance & other subjects / topics within Investment Banking& Corporate Finance. In Strategy we offer multiple choices ranging from Organizational transformation, product pricing, branding, entry strategy and other subjects / topics within the broad spectrum of strategy. In FOM choices include fund management, best practices within the FOM business globally, setting up trusts and associations overseas and other key issues faced by family offices. These programs have been , developed for high-potential students, high-level practitioners and professionals who may hold part-time research positions at iiibsr or any of our sponsors
and associate investment banks, family offices or fund houses and of course keep their fulltime jobs A well-structured curriculum The NSSIB PhD implies an intense personal commitment and is designed to be completed in approximately two years. Its structure includes core courses, electives, research workshops, and dissertation. Core courses equip participants with sound training in financial theory and state-of-the-art analytical and research methods. Elective seminars and workshops ensure exposure to PhD students to the latest advances in specific fields of their choice. The dissertation allows participants to work individually with programme faculty on topics that are relevant to academia, industry as well as aligned to an individual candidates career goals. The Right Mix NSSIB PhD programme has been carefully designed to cultivate extraordinary achievement through a unique international platform. Once you make it through the rigorous selection process, there are exciting challenges ahead. The PhD program offered by iiibsr helps balance study and work life of the student. The program is comprised of the right mix+ of class room lectures, online tutorials, online face to face interactive lectures, self-study, case studies, book reviews, live mandates, speaker opportunities, teaching assignments, research & dissertation. Your first year at NSSIB consists primarily of courses covering the fundamental disciplines of management and methodologies of the practice and conduct of research in your area of study; investment banking / strategy / family office management. Completion of Other Requirements by Field The first year also ensures that students conduct necessary assignments+ in teaching & speakerships.
The second year onwards is concerned with further, in-depth study in your area of specialisation, Directed Reading & Research, Formulation of Research Topic, Admission to Candidacy for dissertation & Oral Examination. The program concludes with research, dissertation culminating in the submission of the thesis and then finally the defense of the thesis. Research is regarded as an integral part of our doctoral program. From an early stage, and throughout the doctoral study, students are encouraged to be actively involved in research activities with faculty members & mentors. NSSIB Students are exposed to up-to-date research methodologies and practice through a close working relationship with members of the faculty, mentors & advisory board. The mentorship process enables students to prudently define dissertation topics. The limited number of students in the programme (up to 15-20 per batch) and the breadth of subjects covered ensure that students receive personal attention and guidance from faculty & mentors throughout their doctoral study. This individual attention and involved mentorship sets the stage for success
Prerequisites The programme requires significant academic / industry background in one or of the following subjects: Investment banking, economics, Family Office Fund management, brokerage research, and strategy. PhD candidates who may lack adequate exposure or knowledge in these fields will be asked to complete remedial courses/ workshops / project reports on joining the programme. Core subjects Core courses ensure that candidates develop sound knowledge in financial theory and analytical methods so that they can take on a variety of research assignments. Core courses are delivered in the first year of the programme to provide candidates with the tools necessary to decide upon a specialisation of their choice and refine their research projects. Elective research Seminars Elective research seminars expose PhD candidates to the latest research advances in specific fields, providing them with opportunities to develop a specialisation and acquire additional knowledge and skills necessary for their dissertation work.
For 2013, the catalogue of elective research seminars will be shared & discussed individually post admissions: Each elective research seminar is of 5 hours duration. Candidates need to take a minimum of five electives and are free to participate in additional electives. Methodology Electives may be a combination of workshops, case studies, book reviews and project reports. Focus on self-study and online lectures give students an opportunity to complete their doctorate while continuing with their full time employment. Research Presentation Series In order to qualify for the Doctorate each student has to submit an original research in the form of presentations They are also expected to comment on the presentations made by other students. Details on this will be discussed with students post admissions.
Workshops Students also have the opportunity to attend a regular doctoral research workshop at which peers, faculty, mentors and guest lecturers present and discuss their on-going research work. They can also active take part in n the doctoral research workshop to further their knowledge and gear up for future research presentations. The doctoral research workshop is delivered live/ over the Internet. Workshops will also include sessions on writing and analysing case studies. Dissertation Each candidate works individually with mentors / guides on dissertation topics selected as per his/ her individual academic / professional goals. Details on these will be discussed with students post admissions. You may speak to a mentor / course coordinator for further details.

The doctorate programs are awarded by, and are in full accreditation and in affiliation with California University, United States of America, under Parliamentary Charter that bears full validity and recognition with all member governments and nations under international law statutes recognized by the Vienna Convention of April 18th, 1961, (1963). The blended learning approach is adopted for these programs / degrees which make them feasible for working professionals and students pursuing other courses. 2. IIIBSR also offers autonomous post graduate & diploma programs in investment banking, strategy & family office management. 3. Dual certification programs are also available.
