Over 50 years of Teacher Training at IH London

Experienced.
Passionate.
In 1962 International House London introduced the worlds first teacher training qualification for English language teaching (ELT). In 2013, we are one of the largest ELT training centres in the world.

04 ihlondon.com

The origins of the CELTA at IH London The original course was the basis for the Royal Society of Arts/University of Cambridge Local Examinations Syndicate qualification in the teaching of English as a foreign language to adults. More recently, this became the Cambridge CELTA or Certificate in English Language Teaching to Adults, which is the most recognised ELT qualification worldwide. Combining experience with innovation Our teacher training courses continue to combine theory and practice, just as they did in 1962. Yet they are also constantly evolving to include new approaches and technologies. The launch of the CELTA Online course is just one recent example of innovation at IH London. The role of John and Brita Haycraft John and Brita Haycraft, the founders of IH London, set up their first intensive teacher training course when there was very little practical training for English language teaching. The Haycrafts believed that language learning was about real communication and, over the last 50 years, IH London has shaped the evolution of the profession of English language teaching by following this principle.
