Mayo Clinic and Microsoft through a celebration party in their three targeted cities: Minneapolis, Minn., Trenton, NJ, and Seattle, Wash. These parties were free to current users, and celebrated the simplification and organization of their health records. I logged on to the Mayo Clinic Health Manager home page one day and saw that they were throwing a party for all of the users. My family and I loved the party, and they had activities geared toward adults and kids, said user Rachel Czech.

My wife and I were nervous to bring our four kids to the party. It said that there would be entertainment for kids, but sometimes my kids are hard to entertain. Mayo Clinic and Microsoft have partnered in the age of social networking by hosting a web application that gives anyone the ability to keep health information organized at one central location. Mayo Clinic Health Manager, a web application that was released by Mayo Clinic, has been added to the list of Mayo Clinics goal of making managing patients health care easier. Other current applications include Ask a Mayo Clinic Specialist, a symptom checker and a variety of other health care tools. HealthVault, Microsofts web application, supplies the inter-working for Health Manager, and has been available since October 2007. In order to access Health Manager, users must have a HealthVault account. All that is needed is a Windows Live ID, and from there, it is completely free to use. Although the idea of social networking and health care may be a scary idea when it comes to security, according to Peter Neupert, Microsoft vice president of health-related products, said, On the one hand, you care a lot about the privacy of health information, but in order to make it valuable, you have to be able to share. by schools, employers and other health care providers. Social networking sites such as Facebook and MySpace have been growing at extreme rates, and people use them to keep their lives organized and keep in touch with friends and family, Neupert said.
