A NON-SECTARIAN APPROACH

Common and universal principles of ethics and morality, where caste, creed, nationality, race, gender and religion need not inter-clash, but rather, where the basic ideology of universal brotherhood brings all living beings into intimate bonds of love, trust and affection, is the need of the hour! The Bhaktivedanta Youth Services (BYS) has been started for this purpose. The guidelines for these teachings are found in all the major scriptures of the world. The four pillars of dharma (duty), common to all, are expressed as follows: Discipline, Compassion, Cleanliness and Truthfulness. Activities opposed to these ideologies are illicit sex life, unnecessary killing of innocent animals (meat eating), intoxication and gambling. Unless men of ideal character and strong caliber are trained to take up proper leadership, the present deteriorating trends in society will continue to increase. At this crucial moment in the history of the world, it is imperative that those who are sincere at heart take up this most important training, so as to save mankind from its impending downfall. This humble appeal is mainly focused to the youth of today who, by becoming qualified, can, in the future, give proper guidance to our present misdirected civilization. To the young and to the young at heart, we, the members of the Bhaktivedanta Youth Services, solicit your support and active participation.

TEACHINGS OF GREAT SEERS

Philosophy without Religion is mental speculation and Religion without Philosophy is but sentimentalism, which leads sometimes to fanaticism. (Srila Bhaktisiddhanta Sarasvati Thakura Prabhupada) Knowledge can be gained by two processes mainly, ascending (experimental by trial and error) and descending (accepting perfect knowledge from a perfect source). The ideal men in society, those who are practiced in peacefulness, self-control, discipline, purity, tolerance, honesty, knowledge, wisdom and religion (Bhagavad-gita 18.42), have all taken to the same process which is coming down in disciplic succession, the descending method (Bhagavad-gita, 4.2). One such exalted preceptor, who appeared 500 years ago in W. Bengal, was Sri Caitanya Mahaprabhu. He disseminated the eternal message of Love of Godhead, found in all the revealed scriptures, throughout the land of India. This same process, based on the chanting the Lords Holy Names is today being taught all over the world by the International Society for Krishna Consciousness (ISKCON).
