Explore: A Closer Look


Reading What Do Illustrators Do? is the story we will be
reading this week. We will be discussing the importance of text features and the questioning strategy. Please study the vocabulary words every night for the comprehension test on Friday. The homework packet includes reading comprehension passages and practice questions. .
Be sure and return your childs signed reading log DAILY! We are asking all 3rd graders to read every night. There will be a quiz on Friday on the story and skills covered.

Writing: Poetry
This week, we will continue poetry. Students will create their own Concrete, Couplet, and I Am Poems. We will study figurative language and how to effectively implement it into our poetry.

Math: Subtraction with Regrouping


We will begin this week by learning to subtract with regrouping across zeros. There will be a quiz on Wednesday. We will also subtract money amounts, solve subtraction word problems, and sove and create subtraction problems Social Studies: Native Americans of South Carolina We are continuing our study of the Native Americans that settled in the South Carolina area long ago. We are continuing our study of the Cherokee and beginning to learn about the Catawba and the Yemassee. Our test will be next week, on Tuesday, October 29.
