The salmon arent done running to Fort Peck Marina Bay just yet as evidenced by Harold Lindells haul Tuesday night. The Chinook salmon in left of phot is around 20 pounds, while the one at right is 29 1/2 pounds, according to Harold. Hoist it up for the picture, Harold! we asked. I cant, Harold replied, its too galdang heavy and its slippery! But Harold went on to admit that he didnt actually catch these big Chinooks himself (and he had a third one in the trunk of the car); they were given to him by the FWP fisheries that is out gathering the eggs of the spawning salmon and things should be wrapping up soon. Depending on how the egg taking is going, there could be some more salmon to give away on Friday afternoon.

Hang on, Harold!

Have you ever checked out the razor-sharp teeth on one of these salmon? True eating machines to go from an egg to a 30-pound fish in a four-year life cycle!

If you are caught in a winter storm, follow these safety tips to help you stay safe: Outside Find Shelter: Try to stay dry. Cover all exposed body parts. If No Shelter: Build a lean-to, windbreak or snow cave for protection from the wind. Build a fire for heat and to attract attention. Place rocks around the fire to absorb and reflect heat. Stay Hydrated: Melt snow for drinking water. Avoid eating snow. Eating snow will lower your body temperature In a Vehicle Stay In Vehicle: You will become quickly disoriented in wind-driven snow and cold. Run the motor about 10 minutes each hour for heat. Open the window a little for fresh air to avoid carbon monoxide poisoning. Make sure the exhaust pipe is not blocked. Be Visible To Rescuers: Turn on the dome light at night when running the engine. Tie a colored cloth, preferably red, to your antenna or door. After snow stops falling, raise the hood to indicate you need help. Exercise: From time to time, move arms, legs, fingers and toes vigorously to keep blood circulating and to keep warm. Inside Stay Inside: When using alternate heat from a fireplace, wood stove, space heater, etc., use fire safeguards and properly ventilate.

While youth hunters got the first crack at some big bucks last Thursday and Friday, the general rifle season for deer and elk gets underway this Saturday, October 26th ands on Sunday, December 1st. State law requires hunters to stop at all game check stations while traveling to and from hunting areas. Failure to stop at a checking station when personnel are on duty is a misdemeanor punishable by a fine. Biological and law enforcement game check stations may be set up together in the same place or in separate locations. Thousands of hunters will provide useful information during these annual game checks, contributing to the management of game animal populations and future hunting opportunities. Every hunting season some individuals unwittingly or knowingly violate the states game laws. Montana Fish, Wildlife & Parks officials urge hunters to review Montanas hunting rules and regulations to ensure they act within the law and that they recognize when others violate the hunting regulations and related laws. Here are some of the most common game violations:
Failure to obtain permission from landowners before hunting on private property. Wasting part of a game animal suitable for food. Failure to properly validate a license/tag or to securely fasten the tag in a visible manner to a game animal immediately after it is taken and before it is moved or transported from the kill site. Taking game from the wrong hunting district. Using someone elses tag on a game animal you killed, or tagging a game animal that someone else killed. Shooting game animals on or from any public highway or public right-of-way. Taking game without a license or the proper permit. Failure to validate a big game tag. Not leaving evidence of the sex or species of the game animal attached.

Trick or Treat
Stir up something

A police officer found a perfect hiding place for watching for speeding motorists. One day, the officer was amazed when everyone was under the speed limit, so he investigated and found the problem. A 10 years old boy was standing on the side of the road with a huge hand painted sign which said Radar Trap Ahead. A little more investigative work led the officer to the boys accomplice: another boy about 100 yards beyond the radar trap with a sign reading TIPS and a bucket at his feet full of change.

A quick fix after one too many?

The quick fix turned out great for the driver and th first passengers, but not pleasant for the second bunch of passengers. This from a Bulawayo, Zimbabwe newspaper of a few years ago: While transporting mental patients from Harare to Bulawayo, the bus driver stopped at a roadside shebeen (beer hall) for a few beers. When he got back to his vehicle, he found it empty, with the twenty patients nowhere to be seen. Realizing the trouble he was in if the truth were uncovered, he halted his vehicle at

the next bus stop and offered lifts to those in the queue. Letting twenty people board the bus, he then shut the doors and drove straight to the Bulawayo Mental Hospital, where he handed over the charges warning the nurses that they were particularly excitable. Excitable was an understatement. Staff removed the furious passengers; it was three days later that suspicions were roused by the consistency of stories from the twenty. As for the real patients? Nothing more has been heard of them and they have apparently blended comfortably back into Zimbabwe.

I Just Realized Something: My dog sleeps about 15 hours a day. He has his food prepared for him. His meals are provided at no cost to him. He visits the Dr. once a year for his checkup and again during the year, if any medical needs arise. For this he pays nothing, and nothing is required of him. He lives in a nice neighborhood in a house that is much larger than he needs, but he is not required to do any upkeep. If he makes a mess, someone else cleans it up. He has his choice of luxurious places to sleep. He receives these accommodations absolutely free. He is living like a king and has absolutely no expenses whatsoever. All of his costs are picked up by others who earn a living. I was just thinking about all this, and suddenly it hit me like a ton of bricks ~ MY dog is a CONGRESSMAN!!!
