Course Management System
A Course management system (CMS) is a software system used to deliver
online education.
CMSs make extensive use of the Web and include features such as
discussion forums, chats, journals and grading tools and student tracking.
CMSs also are used to supplement regular facetoface courses. They are
used in universities, schools and by businesses to deliver corporate
training.
Course management system is a tool that allows an instructor to post
information on the web without that instructor having to know or understand
HTML or others computer languages

Moodle
Modular Object Oriented Dynamic Learning Environment
Martin Dougaimas, a PhD candidate in Education with a background in
computer science, started Moodle in 1999. Version 1.0 was released in
August 2002.
Moodle is an ongoing project created by Martin Dougiamas of Perth,
Australia and has continued to evolve at a rapid rate, managed by him.
Moodle is developed on the popular LAMP platformGNU/Linux, Apache,
MySQL and PHP
Moodle
Moodle is Webbased Learning Management Software (LMS). a free,
Open Source software package designed to help educators create
effective online learning communities
It allows instructors to create, sequence and modify activities for their
students.
An activity might be a simple resource (like a video, sound file, pdf file,
excel spreadsheet, Web page, or word document)
Moodle has been translated into 40 languages by the developer
community. Moodle does not translate user content, remains as it was
entered.

Overall design
Promotes a social constructionist pedagogy (collaboration, activities etc)
Suitable for 100% online classes as well as supplementing facetoface
learning
Simple, lightweight, efficient, compatible, lowtech browser interface
Easy to install on almost any platform that supports PHP. Requires only
one database (and can share it).
Course listing shows descriptions for every course on the server, including
accessibility to guests.
Courses can be categorised and searched one Moodle site can support
thousands of courses
Site management
Site is managed by an admin user, defined during setup
Plugin "themes" allow the administrator to customize the site colors, fonts,
layout etc to suit local needs
Plugin activity modules can be added to existing Moodle installations

Every user can specify their own timezone, and every date in Moodle is
translated to that timezone (e.g. posting dates, assignment due dates etc)
Roles
Roles for specific participants can be defined for each course
An admin account controls the creation of courses and creates teachers by
assigning users to courses
Course creators can create courses, teach in them, and assign others to
teacher roles.
Teachers are a role in a specific course.
Nonediting teacher roles are available for adjuncts, and parttime tutors.
Course management

community .
All grades for Forums, Quizzes and Assignments can be viewed on one
page (and downloaded as a spreadsheet file)
Courses can be packaged as a single zip file using the Backup function.
These can be restored on any Moodle server.

Add an IMS content Package
IMS Content Package
IMS Content Package is an international standard for simple learning content
that is created by authoring software. Moodle IMS CP can read this and show
the content.
The formal name for IMS is IMS Global Learning Consortium, Inc., also
sometimes referred to as IMS/GLC started in 1997. IMS is concerned with
establishing interoperability for learning systems and learning content
It is a standard file format for putting content in Someone might sell you an
application makes IMS Content Packages, someone might sell you an IMS
Content package, or you might download one for free.
It's kind of like a powerpoint slide show a collection of content (images, text,
etc.) with a navigation structure which you can load into Moodle or any other
application that supports IMS CP.

What makes Moodle special???
First of all its a open source software .
Along with belief in open source technologies, Moodle believes in shared,
open standards.

features,fix bugs.
You organize your Moodle course by week,by topic,or by social
arrangement.
WHY CMS?
Because, once you've learned how to use a CMS,You'll be free to
concentrate on teaching and learning.
Because, CMSs opens up new possibilities for learning.
Because.lot of research into how to effectively combine online learning and
facetoface meetings in what are called “hybrid” courses.
Because, moving most of your content delivery to an online environment
and saving your course time for discussion, questions, and problem solving.
