2013-14 Deadlines and Procedures for Graduate Degrees


Program of Study filings
Masters Degree students: Fall 2013 Masters Degree graduates: Program must have been submitted by February 1, 2013 (or earlier) Spring 2014 Masters Degree graduates: Program must be submitted by September 1, 2013 (or earlier) Summer/Fall 2014 Masters Degree graduates: Program must be submitted February 1, 2013. Spring 2015 Masters Degree graduates: Program must be submitted by September 1, 2014 (or earlier) File at the beginning of the semester preceding graduation; no later than 1 full semester before scheduling an exam or before filing an RCL. International Students: *Must have approved Program of Study on file in order to Apply for Reduced Course Load. Doctoral Degree students: Students Admitted Summer/ Fall 2012: File Program of Study by September 1, 2013 Student Admitted Spring 2013: File Program of Study by February 1, 2014 Students Admitted Summer/Fall 2013: File Program of Study by September 1, 2014 Students Admitted Spring 2014: File Program of Study by February 1, 2015. Doctoral students file their Program of Study during their 3rd semester of studies.

Preliminary Examinations Ph.D. students only


Preliminary Exams may be taken any time during the semester except during Final Exam week. Preliminary Exam Scheduling Form must still be filed 10 working days before the exam date (file 15 working days before exam if this is a 2nd attempt exam).

Graduating?

All of the following are required: Students should defend for their degree in the semester which they plan to graduate.

*You must already have an approved Program of Study on file. *Possess a minimum cum gpa of 3.0 (or higher); *Enroll your last semester for at least 2 credits of your 700 (M.S.-thesis), 702 (Masters Nonthesis), or 800 (Ph.D.) research credit *Apply for Degree *Submit your Final Exam Scheduling form 10 working days before the exam (or sooner)
Helpful Hint: Make sure the committee on your scheduling form is the same as the one on file with the Graduate School. If it differs, you must include a Change of Committee form when scheduling your exam.

FALL 2013 Application for Degree: OPEN Now through *October 4, 2013*. SPRING 2014 Application for Degree: Available beginning December 2nd How to Apply: Apply for Graduate Degree using ZZUSIS. Go to: Application for Graduate Degree (on our forms website) (for students earning a Masters or doctoral degree);

If you are earning a Certificate in a particular program, go to: Application for Graduate Certificate. Note: If you have applied for degree within the last calendar year and wish to have your fee waived, please contact GRADUATE COMPLETION at the Graduate school (stormom@wsu.edu or abpatterson@wsu,.edu) Final Exam Scheduling: No exams may be scheduled/taken during final exam week. Students wishing to take a final exam, must file a Final Exam Scheduling Form no later than 10working-days prior to the exam. *Plan ahead* to insure you graduate this semester, meet with your committee to finalize an examination date as soon as possible. We suggest a committee meeting and identifying the date the semester before you plan to graduate or early in the semester of graduation (faculty are very busy!). Defense/Exam Dates and Graduation for 2013-14 Fall 2013 (December graduation is 12/7/13): Defend August 19 - November 27, 2013 Completed Ballot materials must be received by the Graduate School by 12/3/13. Spring 2014 (May 2013 graduation is 5/10/14): Defend January 13, 2014 - April 25, 2014 Completed Ballot materials must be received by the Graduate School by 5/5/14. Summer 2014 graduation: (participate in December 2014 commencement on 12/13/14.) Defend May 12, 2014 - August 1, 2014. Completed Ballot materials must be received by the Graduate School by 8/4/14. **NOTICE: We have extended the time to defend to the last possible date. We are unable to make exceptions beyond these deadlines. **
