Dr. Craig Miller, DVM MVSc Diplomate American College of Veterinary Surgeons
Dr. Craig Miller received his DVM degree from Colorado State University. He practiced for several years in a two man small animal general practice in Eugene, Oregon before deciding to specialize in small animal surgery. He completed a 3 year surgical residency and Masters degree at the University of Saskatchewan. His Masters thesis was a pioneering project in arthroscopy of the canine stifle (knee). He was also the first to perform a clinical free tissue transfer by microvascular anastomosis in a dog and the first Slocum pelvic osteotomy for hip dysplasia in Canada. Following his residency Dr. Miller joined the Ontario Veterinary College as faculty in small animal surgery. He passed the 3 day specialty certifying exam of the American College of Veterinary Surgeons shortly thereafter. During his 12 year academic career he published over 100 research articles, book chapters and abstracts on topics ranging from kinematic analysis of dogs after pelvic osteotomy to free radical formation in skin flaps. He was an invited speaker throughout North, South and Central America as well as Europe and Asia and has been a return guest on the CBC Radio Canada. While at OVC he helped train over 1500 Ontario veterinarians in the science and art of surgery. Dr. Miller satisfies his persistent academic compulsions by serving on the editorial boards of two influential specialty journals: Veterinary Surgery and Veterinary Comparative Orthopaedics and Traumatology.
Dr. Miller left OVC in 2000 to build a private surgical referral practice in the only multispecialty centre in southern Ontario. After 11 years he changed locations to create West Toronto Veterinary Surgery. He is excited about the new location and continues to provide high quality specialty surgery care. In his spare time Dr. Miller enjoys mountaineering and ice climbing in the western US and Canada. He is an avid cyclist, both road and mountain, skier and has recently rediscovered classical guitar (a much safer pursuit). When relaxing at home or on the Bruce Peninsula he spends time with Molly, his geriatric yellow lab, and Savannah, a six year old of indeterminate ancestry, whom his oldest son rescued from a San Diego shelter.
