January - February 1999
i999 souRNev TO sooTHeasr Asia...

February 10th marks the date set for departure for S.E. Asia with plans to arrive in Bangkok, Thailand and then on to Chiangmai, 500 miles north of the capital city. There arefour major responsibilities to be met on this journey: (1) To preach and teach (a two credit-hour course at Chiangmai Bible Institute on the subject of

"Eschatology") (2) To lead in a weekend student-staff retreatand to speakon the topic "The End Time " (3) To participate in a mid-yearconmiencement ceremony for some graduatingstudent/evangelists from C.B.I. (4) To meet with field team members on the printing ofthe little booklet written by P.H. Welshimer, Facts Concerning TheNew Testament Church. As we had written previously. Standard Publishing has grantedpermission to havethis material translatedinto several Asianlanguages, including the Thai language. Mike has spent considerable time over the last three months completinga translation of this work and has typed a copy to take over for editing prior to printing. Please pray that this booklet can be used effectively in sharing with the people ofThailand about the New Testament Church.
MaNY, MaNY THaNKS..,

We are deeply grateful to churches, classes, groups and individuals who have contributed funds to go toward travel expenses for this journey! A total of $1,570.00 has been contributed thus far. A minimum of$2,000,00 is neededfor expenses andyou can still contribute. Just send your check to our forwarding agent at the addressbelow to SoutheastAsia Evangelizing Mission and designate it for Mike's Trip. Funds given in excess of expenses will be presented to the mission as a gift. A lot of preparation goes into this type of event such as, planning the itinerary, reserving and purchasing air tickets, reservations for lodging at stops along the way, preparing teaching notes for classes and sermon preparation in the Thai language, and then, the packing! Please pray for good health and good weather as the journey takes place. For those who have traveled internationally you know the hassle and stress ofcontendng wiA flight schedules, making connections and the jet lag that goes with it! But the blessing will be experienced as the opportunity to renew friendships and share the Word of God becomes reality! We covet your prayers on behalf of the family during the days we are separated. And, once again, your support ofthis ministry through prayer and contributions is vital and uplifting to us! Thank you for providing for our needs for so many years now!

What a tremendous experience this joum^ to Thailand was! It was such a joy to teach 23 students a two-week, two credit-hour course on the subject Eschatohgy. The students in die classroom were so interested, a joy but also a challenge to teach. The remaining students were involved in their intemships. Mid way during the teaching a retreat was planned for both staff and students at a beautiful area called "Huay Hong Khrai", one ofthe many impressive agricultural projects fimded by His Majesty The King. The theme The End Time was emphasized and Mike gave two messages relating to this. One ofthe tme highlights ofthis journey was the graduation exercises held on the campus of Chiangmai Bible Institute. Seventeen students were eligible to receive either diplomas or degrees in the Biblical Studies program of Chiangmai Bible Institute. Fifteen were able to be present for the commencement. Over 300 people attended to share their congratulations with these young men and women! Mike was privileged to speak and confer degrees. Your prayers are important as the Lord opens doors for these young people to serve in His Kingdom in S.E. Asia. We thank each of you for your prayerful and financial support of the work of the mission!

Many, many thanks to our brothers and sisters in Christ who contributedso generously toward travel expenses for
