INTEGRATE 2013 WRAP UP
This year marks the last year the show will be held at the Sydney Convention & Exhibition Centre for some time to come. In 2014, Integrate moves to the Sydney Showgrounds at Sydney Olympic Park due to the complete redevelopment of the existing venue at the beginning of December. This years event was easily one of the best in its history. Not only were the numbers of visitors strong, the stands looked greatgiving the oor a fantastic atmosphere.

But, here is what we were really excited about...

Our stand was swarming with visitors because of one product, the MQB1 tactile transducer. A tactile transducer is a device designed to add 'feel' to movies and music. We demoed a number of movie clips, including a scene from Wrath of the Titans. While the Earthquake TIGRIS front speakers and MINIMEP12 subwoofer did an amazing job for the audioit was the tactile transducer that shocked viewers! We chose a scene where a giant stumbles after Perseus (Sam Worthington) through the forest. You could feel the impact of the giants immense weighteach step vibrating the couch and leaving a childish grin on the faces of everyone that experienced the effect! For those that were interested in audio, the MQB1 made you feel like you were really watching Freddy Mercury live. Each thump of the kick drum was felt through the recliners, with the bi-amped Titans blowing the minds (and occasionally eardrums) of those that dare audition Earthquake Sound. Each audition was swiftly followed by a simple 'how to do it' explanation. We connected an RCA cable from the Subwoofer output of the AV receiver to the 300W Earthquake XJ300 Amplier. The XJ300 is connected to the MQB1 transducer via standard gauge speaker wire. The installation involves fastening the MQB1 via 4 screw holes to the supporting frame of the recliner. Any do-it-yourself is able to perform the installation. You'll notice from the photos that we also used 4 commercial 46" tiled Samsung LED panels sourced from one of our manufacturers in China. These displays are ideal for retail store applications and shopping centres. The panels are A-grade Samsung panels, featuring 5.7mm thin bezels. They are steel frames and fan cooled, allowing them to run 24/7 as opposed to residential TV panels, which shouldn't be run for more than 6 hours at a time (runtimes vary). This particular tiled display comes standard with a oor mountable stand (as per the photo) that can also be recongured to be wall mountable. The ease of operation and exibility is second to none.

INTERACTIVE PROJECTORS
For many, when you think of your school years, you think about the teacher in front of a dusty old blackboarda piece of white chalk in hand. The technology wasn't dissimilar to that used in caves 40,000 years ago. The teacher would spend inordinate amounts of time writing on the board, followed by a discussion, followed again, by an almost ritualised blackboard cleaning routine. Not surprisingly, classrooms, boardrooms and training rooms have adopted interactive solutionswhere presenters have prepared slides or even video content. Using an electronic pen, they'll make annotations over these slides to illustrate important points or to work through problems. These slides can then be saved, emailed or printed. For better or worse, less time is spent cave drawing and more time is spent getting the point across.

PROJECTOR SCREENS
Those familiar with the technology, point out that many projectors are ultra-short throwthat means that they are mounted maybe half a meter from the wall and project in image almost straight down. Not only does this keep the light out of the eyes of the presenter, but it also allows more exibility when selecting the projection surface as the light doesn't project down the room, hit the shiny board and bounce back into the viewers eyes. So though the upfront projector costs might be higher, the ability to use inexpensive boards and the replacement globes cost (maybe $79 rrp) make them quite reasonable. While we can make do with standard whiteboards, you will get a bright spot in the centre of the board. Where the budget allows, a specically designed whiteboard will deliver a better picture and more gain. Elite Screens claim 4 times the gain of a whiteboardwhich should save you money as a lower lumens projector can be used. They also have a 2 year warranty and a heap of different designs and solutions, including the new VersaWhite temporary whiteboard surfaces. POWERED BOX SPEAKERS

The number two accessory for these projectors are powered speakers. For the last 6 years, our hero product has been the powered Wintal Studio speakers. Even the small 5" STUDIO5A is powerful enough for a standard, ruckus classroom. In its infancy, the lower price point meant that many were nervous about reliability, but at a 0.3% return rate and with every single transformer and every speaker being tested on the factory oorwe are proud of their reputation. This year, the Studio speakers underwent some extra changes to improve usability. The rst challenge that was overcome was the elimination of a low level hum that would present in certain situations. In the past, we had to use a RCA ground isolator (PRO1059), but the current design uses a gure 8 connection instead. The second issue related to the cabling. We custom manufactured a compact right angle power cable that is now included with the Studio speakers. The same cable is also available separately (R720ACR) for jobs in tight spaces.

CEILING SPEAKERS
People want good, powerful sound. Trying to pack that into small, discrete speakers is sometimes difcult or expensive. So, whether it's a commercial or residential environment, we're hiding our speakers in ceilings. In classrooms or corporate environments, it's logical to place the ceiling speakers toward the front of the room. The presenter is at the front of the room, so you want the noise to come from their direction. There are a couple of new solutions to achieve this goal. First things rst, the speaker. That most popular ceiling speaker is the Wintal CI620. Each speaker retails for less than $40 ($79.90 a pair), they are powerful and sound good. The tweeter can be pivoted forward to push the sound down the room. If the budget allows for Earthquake ceiling speakers, you can consider the SweetSpot SS-82W. These retail for $350inc. each, but trade price is under $150 giving contractors some juicy margin. The entire speaker is angled 20 degrees forward, much bigger in size (8") and feature a much bigger crossover, higher sensitivity and feature neodymium tweeters. Both these speakers are passive, so you need to power them using an amplier. Under the Pro2 range, two simple new [Class D] ampliers are now available. They deliver a measly 15W a channel, but due to the efciency, you get a whole lot of sound. The PRO1328 is a small module that could sit behind or between the speakersnormally you'd run a 3.5mm stereo cable to the amp and plug it into a power outlet in the ceiling. The light weight will allow it to be used in suspended ceilings. The second solution for amplication is the wall plate version, the PRO1328WP. It again has a 3.5" stereo line level input and a 1/4" mic input. You choose between mic or line level using a switch. The volume control and the power input are both at the front of the plate for simplicity.

Like all the other Resi-Linx digital modulators, this one will support both MPEG2 & MPEG4, meaning that its the only modulator that we know of that will be compatible with all TVs. Like the current HD modulators, it will be capable of sending a Full-HD signal. Most TV tuners will not support Full-HD and

Foxtel is still at 1080i, so it will also be capable of sending 1080i over MPEG2 & MPEG4. It should trade at $3500ex or $875ex per channel. You'll notice that this modulator comes standard with Ethernet outputs. We believe that this will allow for an IP output that transmits a high denition signal over any data network managed or unmanaged switches. This data signal should be received via a compatible DLNA smart TV input, via a receiving IP Set Top Box or a receiver supporting multicasting. We expect this feature to also become standard for the other 1 and 2 channel HD modulators in the future. Receiving HD channels simultaneously occupies a large amount

of bandwidth, meaning that the modulator will require 2 adjacent channels. So you can set it to say, send signal over channel 37 and channel 38. You can't select channel 37 and channel 50. Finally, the target market is commercial. While our experience was that the existing modulators sold predominantly in the commercial market (pubs, hotels & venues), we expect that for this model it will be more so the case. As a result, while the picture quality was already industry best, we expect the MER levels will be the benchmark for the industry.

* DLNA stands for Digital Living Network Alliance. It was founded by Sony 10 years ago with the goal of agreeing upon a common standard for sharing digital content. It's plug and play (UPnP) and widely supported, so it includes all the free audio and video standards. It also includes tens of thousands of products that are DLNA certied like cameras, handy-cams, BD players, XBOX, playstation and smart TVs. Hopefully everyone reads the newsletter front to back and therefore would have read the article about the Resi-Linx 4 channel modulator, right? right? Anyway, the Ethernet outputs grabbed our attention. We've seen products pump a high denition signal out of an Ethernet port over an IP network. The Pro2 HDMIIP was one of the rst products that we wrote about around 3 years ago. So in 2013, why get excited by yet another product that can send a high denition over an IP network? The unique thing about the Resi-Linx is that it will send the signal straight to the TV, not requiring any balun or Set Top Box. The secret to this is the use of DLNA*. To date, most of us have knowingly or unknowingly used DLNA for sending music, photos and videos between devices. But a "DLNA transmitter" is new to us. The expected trade will be around $1000ex. So who is going to use this product? We identied 3 marketsresidential, digital signage and commercial markets. Since it will work with both managed and unmanaged switches, you should be able to pump Pay TV straight into your TV without the need for baluns or boxes. We know from the Pro2 HDMIIP and Wintal MICRO2+ sales, digital signage is a large and growing market. Resi-Linx are also looking to release a matching DLNA (receiving) Set Top Box for any displays that are incompatible. The third application is the commercial market. It also supports multicasting, so potentially even hotels could use this technology. So after an entire article full of hearsay and rumours, we look forward to receiving more details from Resi-Linx.
