market crashed and it left the United States in a devastating condition. Most families struggled to survive, meanwhile president Hoover did very little to change the nations outcome. The poor were poorer, the struggling middle class became poor and most of the wealthy and rich lost most of their money in stock. Even though America faced hard times most impecunious families pushed through each day not knowing what tomorrow would bring them. The election of Franklin D. Roosevelt was a turning point in the Great Depression because his inauguration address spoke life into the despairing spirits of American citizens. FDRs discerns this point, that the only thing we have to fear is fear itself. Although times in the United States were hard FDR believed there was hope for America to push through our economic hardships. FDR spoke light in the middle of Americas dark times. The people sought for a solution that could do something for their problems and FDR took that challenge. FDR states, These dark days will be worth all they cost us if they teach us that our true destiny is not to be ministered unto but to minister to ourselves and to our fellow men. Roosevelts quote conveys the idea of encourage each other during these discouraging times. FDR was well aware of where America was at and his speech spoke life into where they would go. Lastly Roosevelt, declares, For the trust reposed in me I will return the courage and the devotion that befit the time. I can do no less. FDR did not know how long it would take lead us out of the depression but he persuaded the people that he would try every tactic to get people back to work.
