Yogada Giver of Yoga

2000 by Narasimha Rao, SJVC

Triplicities:
1. Aries, Cancer, Libra and Capricorn are chara rasis or movable signs. 2. Taurus, Leo, Scorpio and Aquarius are sthira rasis or fixed signs. 3. Gemini, Virgo, Sagittarius and Pisces are dwiswabhava rasis or dual signs.

Rasi Aspect:
1. A chara rasi aspects all sthira rasis except the one adjacent to it. For example, take Cancer. It is a chara rasi. It aspects all sthira rasis except the one adjacent to it, i.e. Leo. So Cancer aspects Taurus, Scorpio and Aquarius. 2. A sthira rasi aspects all chara rasis except the one adjacent to it. For example, take Scorpio. It is a sthira rasi. It aspects all chara rasis except the one adjacent to it, i.e. Libra. So Scorpio aspects Aries, Cancer and Capricorn. 3. A dwiswabhava rasi aspects all other dwiswabhava rasis. For example, Gemini aspects Virgo, Sagittarius and Pisces. A planet aspects the rasis aspected by the rasi it is placed in. For example, if Jupiter is in Gemini, he aspects Virgo, Sagittarius and Pisces. A planet also aspects all the planets placed in the rasis it aspects. For example, if Mars is in Pisces and Jupiter is in Gemini, they aspect each other (by rasi aspect). Note: In the rest of this lesson, we mean "rasi aspect" whenever we say "aspect"!

Janma Rasi:
The rasi containing Moon in the natal rasi chart is called janma rasi (birth sign).

Subhapati:
Lord of the janma rasi becomes subhapati (auspicious lord).

Karta:
Lagna shows physical self. Hora lagna (HL) shows self from the point of view of wealth. Ghati lagna shows self from the point of view of power and authority. A planet becomes a karta (doer one who acts) in a chart if it conjoins or aspects lagna or HL or GL. Along with conjunction and aspect, ownership may also be considered. A planet can act for a native if it is a karta. Example: Let us take the rasi chart of Bill Cosby (see Chart 1). Moon and Rahu aspect lagna in Aries. Mercury and Mars aspect HL in Aquarius. Moon occupies GL in Leo, while Mars aspects. There are four kartas overall Moon, Mars, Mercury and Rahu.

Kevala:
If subhapati becomes a karta, then he is called kevala (exclusive one). In the above example, Moon is in Leo. So Leo is janma rasi. Its lord Sun becomes subhapati. He is not a karta. So there is no kevala in this chart.

Yogada:
A planet becomes a yogada (giver of yoga) in a chart 1. if it conjoins or aspects lagna and HL, or, 2. if it conjoins or aspects lagna and GL. Along with conjunction and aspect, ownership may also be considered. Yogada is the giver of yoga in a chart. It gives good material results. If it participates in other raja yogas, then it becomes even more powerful. In the example, Moon conjoins GL in Leo and aspects lagna in Aries. He is a yogada. Mars owns lagna and aspects HL and GL. He is also a yogada. So there are two yogadas.

Kevala Yogada:
If kevala becomes a yogada, then he is called kevala yogada (exclusive giver of yoga). In the above example, there is no kevala and hence no kevala yogada.

Maha Yogada:
A planet becomes a maha yogada (great giver of yoga) in a chart if it conjoins or aspects lagna, HL and GL (all the three). Along with conjunction and aspect, ownership may also be considered.

In the example, Mars owns lagna and aspects HL and GL. So he becomes a maha yogada. Other yogada Moon does not own, conjoin or aspect HL in Aquarius and hence he is not a maha yogada. In fact, Mars dasa during 1964-1971 brought material success to Bill Cosby. He came to limelight in 1965 with a lighthearted adventure TV serial called "I Spy". He was the first black American to star in a prime-time television drama series in US, and for his performances on the show he won the Emmy Award for best actor in 1966, 1967 and 1968. Mars dasa indeed brought him fame and money and laid foundation for continued success in life. If we find a maha yogada in a chart, we can predict success in his dasa without any hesitation at all.

Kevala Maha Yogada:

If kevala becomes a maha yogada, then he is called kevala maha yogada (exclusive great giver of yoga). In the above example, there is no kevala and hence no kevala maha yogada.

Magnitude of Success:
Success given by kevala maha yogada is of the highest degree. Maha yogada also gives a very high degree of success. Next in order are kevala yogada, yogada, kevala and karta.

Exercise:
(1) Find subhapati, kartas, kevala, yogada, kevala yogada, maha yogada and kevala maha yogada in your own chart. Clearly give the birthdata and rasi chart. (2) Find subhapati, kartas, kevala, yogada, kevala yogada, maha yogada and kevala maha yogada and identify the most important yoga giver in Chart 2, Chart 3 and Chart 4.
