Education Committee Update
CAM Classes Scheduled for March 2008

The excitement is building leading up to the 2008 CAM Education Series. We are thrilled to have a great line up of instructors
for you this year:
Rosetta Parker with Premier Real Estate Management, Kansas City
Tom Villirillo with Reliable Construction Services, Kansas City
Becky Yontz with Timberland Partners, Minneapolis
Craig Reid with Perry Reid, Lincoln

If you haven’t already signed up you can find the registration form on page 6. Classes are scheduled for March 11, 18, 20, 25,
and 27th and April 7th at the West Des Moines Police Public Safety Building.
This class will only be offered every other year from this point forward. There are many students that need to finish this series so
you’ll want to get on board and get this finished. New students need to remember it may be two years before this course is re-
peated in Des Moines again so plan for your completion of this course accordingly.
The entire CAM series will be $550.00 or $75.00 for each individual class if trying to complete your designation. Registration
forms are included at the back of the newsletter.

Certified Apartment Supplier Classes

If you are vendor and interested in earning the NAA designation of Certified Apartment Supplier, you will be able to attend some
of the classes being offered for the CAM designation in March to qualify for this designation. Cost for the CAS classes is
$350.00 for each individual attending. Registration forms are included at the back of the newsletter.

Letter from the President
Well, it’s been one heck of a year for the Central Iowa Apartment Alliance. Since our incorporation
just under a year ago and with the gracious and tenacious effort of some very key people, our member-
ship has grown to an amazing 12,026 units strong, representing 28 management companies and 81
properties. Our 31 Vendor members are committed to providing quality services to all our members. Membership is grow-
ing almost daily! We are committed to bring the best in education, again offering CAM this year as well as CAS for our
vendor members. CIAA is committed to bringing to you the finest in nationally accredited designations from the National
Apartment Association. Please remember that your membership in the CIAA includes membership in the NAA. We en-
courage you to visit their website and explore all the benefits of your membership.

The Education Committee is developing the seminar schedule for the upcoming months. We will be bringing Susan Wells
to you in April. Susan is a high-energy speaker who will motivate your entire leasing staff, and we guarantee you will all be
heading back to your leasing offices ready to close those sales!

NAA’s Capitol Conference is being held in March. As Legislative Chair, my intention is to bring our ongoing tax issue to
the national table and enlist the help of the NAA/NMHC Joint Legislative Program and NAA’s Government Affairs staff.
Efforts, albeit minor ones, have already been made in the State legislature, and we will not relent in our efforts to bring
about the needed change in the tax structure for rental properties in Iowa.

All this cold weather has really put a damper on traffic, hasn’t it? It will get better! Remember to relax and be yourselves;
prospects base their decision not only on the actual apartment home, but on the person who they feel is their friend and
genuinely concerned about them. That’s YOU! So take a deep breath and get ready for a successful leasing season!

We have tentatively arranged for staff members of NAA to be here on April 17 in conjunction with the Susan Wells semi-
nar. Don’t miss this opportunity to hear about all the exciting benefits of your membership in the NAA!
