Top left with Virginia is THELMA LITTRELL, .11702 S. Gale

Ave., Apt, C, Hawthorne, OA 90250 ph. 213-644-1640,who has been a friend of over 40 years and supporter of the work
in Japan for 34 years, is a retired school teacher for 14 years, and has completely put out our newsletter for

nine (9) years, often donating the the complete cost of the mailing and printing. She is our contact person for
the Los Angeles area when we do not have an address in Los Angeles. To the left: is IRENE and EARL GRICE, both on the IXTHUS

MISSION TO JAPAN Board, Earl is Dean and Teacher at the Minnesota Bible College and the Fleenors met him when he toured Japan as a widower many years ago.
He then married Irene and it was in their home that Virginia stayed in 1977
when she was in Mayo Clinic for tests. Since that time Irene has become our

forwarding secretary and treasurer and bookkeeper for the mission. We think they are the finest team available. Earl advised us to take out major medical
insurance last year which we did through the group plan for missionaries which is offered by Pacific Christian College. Our entire family plan is $99.00 a month. Just at that time the Huntington Park Christian Park voted to take on $100.00 a month living link for us^. new support which metithis need, and
responsibility which we should take to the churches.

Top right with Julius is GRACE FARNHAM who wais a missionary since 1931 until her retirement. She recruited Virginia and Julius for Japan and oriented them.

She will be 93 on July 31st and lives at the Oakdale Nursing Home, 2933
Center St., N.E., Salem, OR 97301. Some may want to send this faithful missionary and prayer warrior a birthday card. We had the joy of being with Grace at cherry blossom time in Oregon this year when at the Faith
Promise Rally of the Court St. Church at Salem in March.

arrive back in Japan July 25th to begin their 7th Term of Service. PRAY WITH US FOR JAPAN.

Hunters, took us all to supper and told all our children,

"Now you call on us if you need anything." Such spiritual brothers and sisters encourage us when an ocean separates us. Del Amo Christian Church gave us a loving farewell too. Laurie,16, returned with us for her last two years of high school in Japan. WE ARRIVED IN THE MIDST OF THE WORSE HEAT WAVE of 23 days and nights in the history of Japan. Nevertheless Laurie

said, "I love Japan.

I'm so glad to be back."

The Sayama Church had made all arrangements and paid our expenses to the 35th All Japan Missionary Convention in Yokohama. It encouraged our spirits and hearts to see Christians from all over Japan, some whom we had taught and encouraged, who are preaching and witnessing*.
WELCOME AT SAYAMA was warm in many ways and after a hot afternoon of final planning we went to Karuizawa to prepare the camp buildings. The Japanese Church did so much in planning, arranging the buses, cooking, and arranging the logistics, it encouraged us. We taught and kept the ends together and the two camps resulted in four who confessed faith in Jesus Christ. Three soon to be baptized and one who has strong faith (but her husband said, "Please wait until I die to be baptized ") is now praying with all the church people that her life be changed so they will soon be baptized together. He started to read Christian literature and the Bible 6 years ago. He is interested in the philosophy, but the wife got converted to Christ with a living faith by reading the Word. One of the Sayama Christians witnessed to her and brought
her to camp. PRAY FOR ALL IN JAPAN WHO ATTENDED BIBLE CAMPS THIS SUMMER.

Two nights of Coffee House Evangelism were conducted by the Christiansen family in the Camp buildings also. Weary from coming up and down the mountain during August, we rejoiced at results. NOW WE BEGIN THE FALL SCHEDULE. People kept coming daily for us to open this class or that. Dr. Sato set up two classes at his University for Julius with doctors. Then Dr. Tanaka invited Julius to come each Friday to teach English Bible to doctors and Japanese Military officers. Virginia will be teaching Dr. Tanaka's wife personally as she now says, "I believe in Jesus Christ."

The great missionary Paul said "A GREAT DOOR FOR EFFECTIVE WORK HAS OPENED TO ME
I Cor. 16:9

"

IN JAPAN. NOW, as never before, we have invitations by Christians to open their

homes to "Home meetings for Evangelism". This means the Christians who open their homes need nurturing and care and prayer. In the long run, this will result in their
being soul winners.

HAGA HOUSE CHURCH. We had an example in this when first we taught a kindergarten child. Then the mother was converted, then the two sons grew up and accepted Christ at camp, and then the old father Mr. Haga 72 and his wife 62 burned their god

shelves and opened their home. Sisters were converted and then one complete family
in the neighborhood, and three other adult Christians who are praying for their husbands and their sons'conversion. Haga House is open for weekly meetings of Bible reading, and special monthly meetings in the evening and day for different age groups and people of different interests and contacts. We are asked this month to come three times to help teach and witness with others.

through us. We cannot just "make a schedule" "make a plan for evangelism". We do have special evangelistic meetings here planned in November, but we must go out
and be available and sensitive to "What God wants us to do."

HEALTH PROBLEMS: Going to Mayo Clinic was expensive but Laurie had throat surgery there in June which we hope will be a turning point since she had had chronic strep throat. We hope this will keep her at a higher health level. Virginia was cleared of having any liver problem after her previous hepatitis. They did increase her high blood pressure medication. She must keep having monthly blood tests as the side effects -of this medication cause lack of potassium and extreme fatigue and body pains. She takes a thirty minute fast walk in the neighborhood early

each day.

Passing houses where Budhhist chants are made and meeting other "walkers"
Julius examination showed no problem.

are giving us a chance for more intercession.

Julius' tests were done at the California Yorba Linda Clinic.

FUND^-.: We expended much to go to our supporting churches, conventions, etc. during furlough and are paying this with our Visa payments monthly. We send $500.00 a month
until the end of 1984 to finish off the North Japan Village Evangelistic outreach

building in KAMO.

Then we are paying $100.00 a month to Mayo until this is paid up.
Two groups gave us money for the

The Japanese Church is small, but they are helping.

KAMO Church to have a much needed clean air heater and two Christians have offered to

go help encourage this small band of Christians in a difficult area.

Again and again the Japanese thank us for coming back. The Christians asking for teaching and prayer and encouragement are also bringing their neighbors to hear the
gospel.

Mr. Kaide said "I wanted to pay for the Fleenors trip to the Yokohama Convention because if they had not come to Japan I would have been lost and I would have had nothing., nothing.. I would be nothing. In Jesus Christ is all my hope."
Such statements keep us going.

A Christian lady^ whose husband's partner stole everything they had including their home by mortga, ging it when he trusted him with his business "seal"(which is like a signature in Japan) said "I still have Christ and eternal life and hope and now my
husband is going to church because it was the Church that has stood by and helped us
in all this."

WE COUNT ON YOU.

WE NEED YOU.

THANK GOD FOR YOU.

Sincerely,
