Part (A)
A pressure of 100 MPa is applied on the top surface of the vessel, and apply the weight of the vessel as a distributed load on bottom closed surface of the vessel:
Compute the max stress in the vessel and identify the location Compute the maximum stress & displacement in the table top and identify the locations Compute by how much the table leg gets shorter Model the vessel with 3D elements, table top with 2D elements, and table legs with 1D elements Consider symmetry if applicable Show contour/deformed plots for all the results

Part (B)
Table top is heated and the temperature is maintained constant at 100 C Assuming the bottom of the vessel is maintained at the same temperature as the table top:
Find the temperature on the top surface of the vessel Air temperature is 30 C Heat transfer coefficient is 75 W/m2 C Temperature = ? Show the contour plot

Air Temperature = 30 C Table surface = 100 C (constant)

Part (C)
Find the first six natural frequencies of the vessel and show the corresponding mode shapes

Use a finite element (FE) software to compute the results for parts (A), (B) & (C)

Format
Submit the project in the form of PowerPoint presentation The presentation should at least have the following:
Title slide Brief problem description Description of the FE model
What type of elements used, no. of elements/nodes, etc. What cards were used List the material properties/unit system used/etc. Boundary conditions Applied loadetc.

Clearly state any assumptions you have made in your analysis Results
Show the contour/deformed plots Discuss the results

Conclusion References (if applicable)

Keep in Mind!
Each student should work on the project individually
Else, will result in a fail grade

Part of the grade will be for how good your FE model is:
Mesh Simplicity (not overtly simple as to result in anomalous results) Correct definition of all the cards/parameters Using a consistent unit system Working FE model

Part of the grade will be for how thorough your presentation is:
I should be able to easily understand the FE model looking at your presentation Clearly state and show the results with some discussion and conclusion

Do not cut & paste the slides or information from the lectures or HW
This will directly result in a fail grade

The project is due by May 2nd (Thursday), 2013 before 2:30pm.

No late submissions will be entertained
