After working as a clinician for a number of years I was keen to explore opportunities to move into management. I enrolled in postgraduate studies to develop my management skills in the public sector knowing that I wanted to continue to work in the healthcare industry. I chose to study a Master of Public Policy and Management at Monash on the basis that it was not health specific, but did focus on policy and management in the public sector. I was particularly keen to interact with non-health professionals to understand the differing views on public issues.

The Master of Diplomacy and Trade combines theoretical and practical approaches to international trade, with a broader discussion of policy making, statecraft and international relations. The course is challenging, but manageable and the discussions with faculty and fellow students, which form part of every class, offer a chance to really explore the ideas and concepts presented. This degree gave me the tools and credentials I needed to help me get my current position. It has also proved invaluable in preparing me for the complex issues that constitute modern foreign affairs. I can heartily and unreservedly recommend MDT, whether you want to build a career, or develop your own understanding of the international sphere.
