1.0
Introduction
The operation of modern-day, high-performance textile machinery involves a multitude of lubrication requirements which standard lubricants can meet only partly, if at all. The German Standard DIN 64 921, Lubricants for textile dyeing and finishing machinery, provides a general listing of only two lubricating greases based on mineral oils, plus some lubricant groups (e.g. lubricating and hydraulic oils) and adhesive lubricants on a mineral oil basis, together with the corresponding standard code letters. This does not yet amount to overall application engineering guidelines and standardization options. Formulating these is rendered more difficult by the extremely wide variety of different friction points, with their very different stresses and environmental conditions. It is here that special lubricants come into their own. At Klber Lubrication, application-tailored solutions involving special lubricants for highly stressed friction points in textile machinery have a long tradition. All over the world, machine manufacturers and users can benefit from highquality lubricants of proven efficiency. Special lubricants, when properly selected and utilized, not only improve operational reliability, they also cut maintenance costs substantially. The very high sums which still have to be spent on correcting damage caused by friction and wear can be effectively reduced by the use of special lubricants. In this context it is of course of crucial importance to choose the right lubricant this is the key to successful lubrication. The choice of a lubricant must be governed by the technical and operational requirements profile of the friction point involved and not primarily by the costs. The performance and functional reliability of the lubricant are much more important than a price per pound comparison showing the supposed advantages of cheap lubricant purchasing. High-quality special lubricants, though they may cost more, are more economical for you in the long run. Lubrication and lubricants are today more than ever the subject of meticulous scrutiny by engineers and materials planning staff. But special lubricants also make an important contribution to reducing environmental pollution; often only small quantities are needed to provide long-term or lifetime lubrication in cases where total-loss lubrication would not only be uneconomical but would also involve substantial environmental difficulties. In this brochure we present intelligent solutions for the highly stressed friction points found in textile machinery, restricting ourselves, of course, to the most important and widespread cases of typical applications. Technical development, however, is never at a standstill; and we will always welcome your suggestions for expanding and supplementing this brochure. On the following pages, you will find details of typical applications and solutions to lubrication problems involving the following types of textile machinery: Spinning machines Synthetic fibre spinning machines Synthetic fibre processing machines Twisting and spool machines Apparatuses and special machines Knitting machines Sizing machines and looms Textile finishing machines

All Klber products recommended are high-performance lubricants, most of them on a synthetic basis. They offer: maximum operational reliability low machinery servicing costs long maintenance intervals environment-friendly utilization For detailed descriptions of the products, with additional information on the applications involved, please consult the appropriate product information leaflets, which you can obtain from us free of charge. Please note that due to the extraordinarily large number of technical solutions possible, the illustrations in this brochure do not in each and every case relate directly to the lubricant recommendations accompanying them. They are intended merely as examples; the operating and maintenance instructions of the machine manufacturer as well as the lubricant recommendations are of course binding. Our network of production and sales companies all over the world ensures that you always have a supplier of our products conveniently near to you, who will also keep you up-to-date with the latest results from research, development and testing.

EP oils are not miscible with mineral oils or oils on a PAO basis. We recommend testing compatibility with sealing materials, paints and inspection glass. The optimum choice for gear lubrication in weaving machines if long oil life is desired. Approvals by several manufacturers, e.g. by VAMATEX NUOVA for Klbersynth 100 KV and by SOMET for Klbersynth G 4-130 (for relubrication)

Klbersynth GH 6 oils High-performance gear oils on a PG basis Alternatively: Klbersynth EG 4 oils (see above) or STRUCTOVIS BHD MF

Klbersynth GH 6 oils have an excellent friction behaviour. They reduce gear temperatures considerably and increase gear efficiency by more than 25 %. Owing to their special additives they reduce wear substantially, especially on materials that are typically used for worm gears. Oil change intervals are at least five times longer than those of mineral oils. STRUCTOVIS BHD MF is an intrinsically viscous long-term and high-temperature lubricant. It contains solid lubricant particles and is especially suitable for worm gear drives of width adjustment spindles.

Klbersynth GH 6 oils are available in all common ISO viscosity grades. They are not miscible with mineral oils or oils on a PAO basis. We recommend testing compatibility with sealing materials, paints and inspection glass. BRCKNER recommend STRUCTOVIS BHD MF for the lubrication of worm gears in stenters.

Klberquiet BQH 72-101, BQ 72-72 for long-term and lifetime lubrication mostly of rolling bearings that do not allow relubrication running at > 100 C and high speeds For rolling bearings that can be relubricated: Klberplex BEM 41-132

Klberquiet greases are characterized by a wider service temperature range and an extremely high resistance to temperature and speed. At high temperatures, runtimes > 4000 hours are possible without relubrication; the same applies to Klberplex BEM 41-132 at low temperatures.

Klberquiet/Klberplex greases meet most requirements to be satisfied by todays rolling bearing lubricants. Our tried-and-tested greases STABURAGS N 12 MF and STABURAGS NBU 8 EP continue to be good choices for many applications.

Screw-type compressor

High operating temperatures leading to rapid oil ageing through oxidation, and short oil change intervals

Rotary vane compressor

High-Pressure Stage

High operating temperatures leading to rapid oil ageing through oxidation, and short oil change intervals Coking of the oil leads to formation of residues.

Cleaning of screw-type and rotary vane compressors

Deposits due to pronounced oxidation especially of mineral-oil-based products This will inevitably lead to contamination of the new oil fill unless the compressor is cleaned during changeover.

Notes

Klber Summit SH oils High-performance compressor oils on a PAO basis

Clean compressor thanks to good oxidation stability Oil change intervals at least three times longer than those of mineral oils When changing over from mineral oils, energy cost cuttings by 3 to 5% are possible.

Klber Summit SH oils are available in all common viscosity grades. They are miscible with any residual mineral oil in the compressor and are mostly neutral towards paints and seals.

Klber Summit DSL oils High-performance compressor oils on a diester basis

Low tendency towards residue formation reduces deposits and gluing of vanes. Oil change intervals at least three times as long as those of mineral oils When changing over from mineral oils, energy cost cuttings by 3 to 5% are possible.

Klber Summit DSL oils are available in all common viscosity grades. Compatibility with seals and paints should be tested.

Concentrated compressor conditioner Klber Summit VARNASOLV

Concentrated conditioner for cleaning screw-type and rotary vane compressors, especially when changing over from mineral-oil-based products to the synthetic Klber Summit DSL or SH oil

Klber Summit VARNASOLV is added to the oil fill at a concentration of 10 % and should remain in the compressor for 40 to 60 operating hours. Then drain the compressor while the oil is still hot. When used at a concentration of 10 %, VARNASOLV is compatible with all materials resistant to mineral oil. The oil ageing condition can be visually inspected (preferably before oil change) by means of the Klber Summit TAN kit.
