Thirty-second Sunday in Ordinary Time November 10, 2013

April 24, 2011 , 2010

On the wall in the Gathering Room is a wreath which is surrounded by the names of people from our parish who have died this past year. As I wrote last week, the month of November is dedicated to our memory of those who have passed before us, both the saints & those who are still in the process of becoming saints. I hope that this wreath will be a reminder to you to offer prayers, light candles, and remember fondly those whom we have lost. At the end of this month, the whole Church will be celebrating the end of this Year of Faith, initiated by Pope Benedict XVI before he retired from the papal office. So on November 24th, we will be focusing our prayers according to this theme. Hopefully this past year has afforded you the opportunity to learn more about our Catholic Faith. The more I learn about our fascinating history, the depth of our theology and the enriching giftedness of the Church, the more I am aware of Gods tremendous presence and action in our 2,000 history. As a reminder, we have DVDs available for you to borrow from Fr. Robert Barrons video series called Catholicism. They are incredibly well done and I find them fascinating to watch. Youll absorb so much of the richness of Catholicism by viewing these videos and you can do it in the comfort of your own home, according to the availability of your time, and of course, with popcorn in hand. Again we have several books available for you to borrow that reveal the wisdom of our Faith. Some are on the shelves in the back of the church and in the cry room. Please help yourselves to these books as you learn more about the wonders of our faith and the Church that possesses that faith. One last reminder to sign up for the retreat day (actually its only half a day) that were planning for next Saturday, November 16th at the Loyola Retreat House in Clinton, Ohio (about an hour from West Salem). The day will begin between 9 & 9:30, will include a half-hour presentation by Abbot Clement, followed by time to talk or reflect, and end with Mass & lunch. Its just a few hours set aside to re-center yourself as we prepare for the busy holidays ahead. Sign up sheets are available in the Gathering Room.

Catholic Campaign for Human Development Nov.23-24 The Churchs love for the poor . . . is a part of her constant tradition (Catechism, 2444). The collection for the Campaign for Human Development (CCHD) provides funding for groups that create lasting change and uplift the poor in the United States. CCHD grants have gone towards advancing education, supporting economic development, and improving housing in lowincome neighborhoods. You can participate in this tradition on Nov. 23-24. Defend human dignity. Give to the CCHD Collection. What will it be like when the world comes to an end? Dramatic upheavals are foretold in Sacred Scripture---the wickedness that will be plainly manifest, the trials, and persecutions that will put the faith of many to the test, these are only the dark side. Gods definitive victory over evil will be visible. Gods glory, truth, and justice will stand out brilliantly. With Christs coming there will be a Ne w heaven and a new earth. He will wipe away every tear from their eyes, and death shall be no more for the former things have passed away (Rev 21:14).
