Course Overview

This course has primarily been developed to ensure that persons holding an Australian Recognised Trade Certificate in the trades of Electrical Mechanics or Electrical Fitting are provided with the skills and knowledge to be issued with a Western Australian Electrician License. Participants in this qualification are typically migrants seeking to apply for Western Australian Electricians License in order to gain entry into the Western Australian Electrotechnology Industry. Typically they will have undergone a skilled migration process involving the Vocational Education Training Assessment Scheme (VETASSESS) or be part of the Trades Recognition Australia (TRA) program. The qualification is also designed for those who have been advised by the Western Australian Electrical Licensing Board to undergo a competency assessment.

Course Entry Requirements


All applicants must apply to the WA Electrical Licensing Regulator, Energy Safety for permission to enroll on the course. Applicants must also have a working knowledge of both written and spoken english.

WA Electrical Workers License


Application for a WA Electrical Workers License should be made to the WA Department of Commerce Energy Safety Licensing Branch (08 9422 5282) on successful completion of the course.

Electrical Trade Licensing Course

80 hours over a 2 weeks period.

Course Content
The course is divided into two quite distinct units of competency which are delivered over two 40 hour periods. Part ADesign & Install Low Voltage Electrical Wiring This unit covers the design and installation of Low Voltage Electrical Wiring in domestic premises including wiring enclosures, Cable Support Systems, cables and accessories. It encompasses working safely, terminating cables and connecting wiring at accessories to installation standards. Part BInspect & Test Electrical Wiring and Equipment This unit covers inspection and testing to verify that an electrical installation and equipment is safe and complies with all requirements. It encompasses working safely, visual inspections test procedures and mandatory reporting requirements.
