net 30 September, 2013 CCSD Human Resources: It is with a sense of accomplishment and determination that I request consideration for a secondary teaching position within the Clark County School District. I am completing licensure as a post-graduate student in the Teacher Preparation Program at Nevada State College, where I also graduated in 2012 with a Bachelor of Arts, with a history major and an English minor, and have passed my Praxis II in both Social Studies and English. The challenge to increase the analytical thinking skills of the CCSD students in either subject area, as they improve their writing, is one I am eager to meet. I completed my student teaching in a split position, learning from both the traditional setting at Chaparral High School, and the modern online setting at Virtual High School. At Chaparral, I found that live interaction with students is rewarding and personal, allowing the students to connect individually with me as a teacher. I found this true during my time as a long-term substitute, as well, as I noticed the difference between full-year attachments and day-to-day assignments. The Virtual model was a new challenge, but also sparked new ideas for the new technologically-savvy student. It allows me to be more versatile as a teacher in offering more teaching methods, learning methods, and assessment options, assuming the technology is available. This versatility in my teaching will allow the students to be more engaged, bringing more of their attention to their studies, and allowing me to keep my expectations for them high. This will, in turn, keep their own expectations of graduating high. I have been published in limited release both as an adult and as a juvenile author of short stories and poetry, and am familiar with aspects of various historical reenactment societies. These personal accomplishments allow me unique background knowledge that I may use to capture the interest of gifted students who need the extra incentive to explore, or at-risk students who need a reason to care. These are accomplishments and activities that prove that any one of them can achieve. This is the atmosphere I wish to create in my classroom. Thank you for taking the time to review my resume and consider me for a position. This career choice has been a calling I have been pursuing for half of my life. I look forward to finally answering that calling.

Respectfully yours, Robert W. Hughes, II
