PA CleanWays of McKean County removed another
twenty-five hundred tires from McKean County, filling three
tract-trailers on Saturday, August 1, 2009. Edmond Chevrolet
on South Avenue hosted the event in their parking lot and the
Crosby Mini Mart of South Avenue provided a reduced price for
pizzas for the volunteers. Seventeen volunteers spent four
hours loading the tires. Penn State Extension coordinated the
event by taking registrations and the McKean County Adult
Probation Office provided several volunteers. PA CleanWays
made the event possible by securing a grant from the PA
Department of Environmental protection Household
Hazardous Waste Program.

MCKEAN COUNTY LIVESTOCK CLUB
On August 2nd the McKean County Livestock Club held a
meeting at the residence of Ron and Kim Tanner of Smethport.
The meeting was called to order at 2:00 p.m. by Aaron Strait.
The American Pledge was done by Aaron Strait, and the 4-H
Pledge was done by Aimee Darrah. The secretary’s report was
given by Aimee Darrah, and the treasurer’s report was given
by Kim Tanner (the club leader).
The members worked on their books, and discussed some
ideas for their fair table during their meeting. The next
meeting will be held on August 9th at 2 p.m. at the Larry
Ackley barn located at the McKean County Fairgrounds in
Smethport. f

Air Force Staff Sgt. RUSSELL DZEMYAN has deployed

overseas to a forward operating base to support the mission of
Operation Enduring Freedom.
Operation Enduring Freedom is the official name given to
anti-terrorism military operations involving U.S. troops and
allied coalition partners. Active duty and reserve component
members from all branches of the U.S. armed forces have been
deployed to support the war against global terrorism outside
the borders of the United States. U.S. troops serve in South,
Southwest and Central Asia, the Arabian peninsula, the Horn
of Africa, islands in the Pacific, and Europe.
Dzemyan is an air transportation supervisor with the 437th
Aerial Port Squadron at Charleston Air Force Base, S.C., and
has served in the military for five years.
He is the son of John P. Dzemyan of Bloomster Hollow
Road, Smethport, Pa.
The staff sergeant is a 2000 graduate of Smethport High
