Grandma Brandenburg is 5 months away from her 103rd birthday. She

wrote, "The tribulations of old age are with me, but the promise of God shines brighter than ever as the years fly by." She lives in Calif. Truly, one of God's bright stars.
This Christmas, our church served a "free dinner" to anyone who
was away from home and wanted to share in Christian fellowship. Jo Roth who masterminded it with help from other women served about 70 very appreciative people. We think it should be an annual service. The church has suffered a great financial loss - most of our new building fund was in a finance corp. that is defunct now. This means

that we do not start building this summer as planned.

CHRISTIAN GROWTH AND SERVICE

We don't know

Last Spring 150 Christian women held their first Retreat which was at the lovely resort Kuilima Hotel, about 5 miles from here. The speak er was Dixie Martin and she was superb, I led in a workshop on "Quiet Time". Our next one is planned for March. We hope to have 300 women. An Abundant Life Seminar with Lowell Applebury was held at the Pearl Harbor church and we attended that for several nights,
V.B.S. at Sunset Beach was small but was another means to reach

the children. At Maile, we were swamped with 40-50 Samoan children. At first, I was amazed at the way they settled arguments with each other with their fists. As each day went on, I grew to love them. Their fighting let up, too, I drove my car 50 miles a day to pick uo child ren who lived in valleys and in shacks on a deserted beach. One of these girls found $20, on a beach and she gave it all for the mission
offerings. Very unselfish children!

Another pleasure I had this summer was helping Lourdes t ray Filip ino neighbor, who is near 4'0 years old and retarded. We had "school" one day a week - she read from a Bible reader and wrote stories about Jesus, She never misses church morning or night. One of God's lesser lights according to this world, but bright in His sight. Each day is beautiful - our weather has been perfectly Hawaiian. I see so much to do - so many people to visit, I try to visit each of ray students during the year. They consider my visit to them very import ant! I get bogged down like everyone else, interruptions, extra duties in the school office, some long T.V. programs - but I love each, moment
of each happy day in this work.
Your letters and cards all brought prayers of thankfulness for

just knowing you. May vie all find much to do this year for the Lord, Each glorious star is important to God or He would not have placed it in the heavens. We must realize how important it is to keep our light
shining for Him,
"E MAU KE ALOHA 0 KA HAKU ME KAKOU"

"Rejoice, rejoice, 0 Christian Lift up your voice and sing Eternal hallelujahs to Jesus Christ the King"

Some days are "singing days" when the Joy of the Lord fills us. This summer has been so full of good things that I want to share them with you, my friends. My desk is full of clippings from church papersone of the latest is from Wayne Smith's Southland's paper* "The Lord respects me when I work But He loves me when I singe"

in the Pacific Ocean by his son, Maurice. The Saitos have lived in Sunset for over 20 yearss their sons and Mrs. Saito accepted Christ here, the boys graduated from our Christian School, Prayers for Mr. Saito's acceptance of Christ have never ceased. return to Sunset Beach, to work here. Russell, his brother, plans to

work in Hawaii after his graduation from San Jose Bible College next year. How wonderful it is to see our own come back to work with us. In the Spring, Nobuko Tsue, a neighbor, came to me asking how to
become a Christian. I went with haste to her home and taught her from

the Bible - she was baptized in April. She loves her new life in the Lord - another regular attender at church. One of our school mothers was baptized on Easter. She is a bless ing to the Hauula church. The Lord is using our school to show the Way
of the Lord to the students as well as to their parents.

Hugh Dusza, the boy with the broken leg, was baptized (cast and ^ all, wrapped in a plastic bag) before he moved to Alabama this Spring.
His mother, a-beautiful person, who had never known the necessity of baptism, was baptized with Hugh. His whole class and teacher, Ellie
Otake, witnessed his baptism.

The Sunset Women have gotten together a prayer group which meets each Wednesday morning for prayer and growth - together. This has opened up many new aspects of prayer. Some of our new Christians are learning
to pray.

There is a touch of sadness in our school family - we have lost 2 of our fathers this summers Mr. Corpuz, whose daughter Barbara is at the

who was our custodian for several years. His daughter, Geocila, is in

How exciting it is to think back on those years and remember how God has brought us to many victories. We place our school
in His hands for the future.

We have 100 children enrolled with a few more waiting to get in. This is the largest enrollment we have had at the beginning of a school
year.

We are at work on plans to build 2 more much needed classrooms this

I had many friends come by to see the work here this past year. How I love to renew old friendships and keep that bond ever strong. My "old" friends certainly have a secret way of keeping their youth. It's hard to talk "Senior Citizen" talk!
