FR. ADRIANS CORNER

Our celebra ons for All Saints and All Souls took place last week. I want to thank everyone who worked hard pu ng liturgies together for both occasions as well as for the weekend which came close on the heels of All Souls. A special word of apprecia on and gra tude to those who serve as volunteers in both Bereavement and Grief Ministry at the parish. To Be y Muszynski, Pat Sheehan and their teams who do such wonderful work with great sensi vity and kindness. They are always looking for volunteers to help them. If you feel called to give some me to working with the bereaved, either helping to prepare for funerals or simply listening to people coming to terms with loss, please contact me at the parish and I will put you in touch with Be y or Pat. Wendy Brophy will have informa on regarding the overall cost of the Parish Pilgrimage to Rome and Assisi in October 2014 by mid-November. The airlines cannot give us the relevant informa on for next year un l then, hence the short wait for the overall cost. Brochures will be made available by the end of November so that people can begin to sign up and get deposits in. If you are interested in traveling next year you may email Wendy Brophy at wbrophy@ggtravel.com or 858-756-4174 x1702. Wendy is a member of our parish and works in the travel/pilgrimage business. She is kindly organizing this pilgrimage for the parish. Prepara ons for the General Assembly of the Small Chris an Communi es at San Luis Rey are coming together. Members of the planning team travelled to Santa Barbara on last Thursday to meet with the facilitator, Fr. Michael Harvey, OFM. It was a frui ul mee ng and the agenda has been xed. Each SCC will receive a pack containing le ers of invita on for each member of the community and an agenda for the Assembly itself. Facilitators are asked to circulate these in each small community as soon as possible. Our keynote speaker for Friday, 22 November is Fr. Ignacio Muro, OFM, Guardian at St. Francis Parish, Tijuana, Mexico. Fr. Ignacio is a former Provincial of his Franciscan Province in Baja California, and was an Assistant to the Minister General of the Franciscans in Rome for six years. He is completely bilingual and his presenta on will be en tled: Passing on Franciscan values in the world today. We look forward to welcoming all members of the SCCs and those who are simply interested in knowing more about the SCC at the parish.

Finally, a big thank you to Fr. Luis and his team of extraordinary bread-makers for the Pan de Muerto last Sunday! They worked hard and stayed up late in the Mission kitchen baking many loves. I learned a thing or two about rolling dough; that its not easy and takes a lot of skill and pa ence. The proceeds of the sale of the Pan de Muerto will go to fund the trip by members of various Hispanic Ministries to the Religious Educa on Congress in Anaheim in 2014. By now you know that I like to quote Pope Francis. Here are some words from a homily at Mass during the week at the chapel in the Casa Santa Marta where he lives: A Chris an is one who is invited. Invited to what? To a shop? To take a walk? The Lord wants to tell us something more: You are invited to join in the feast, to the joy of being saved, to the joy of being redeemed, to the joy of sharing life with Christ. This is a joy! You are called to a party! A feast is a gathering of people who talk, laugh, celebrate, are happy together. I have never seen anyone party on their own. That would be boring, no? Opening the bo le of wine . . . Thats not a feast, its something else. You have to party with others, with the family, with friends, with those whove been invited, as I was invited. Being Chris an means belonging, belonging to this body, to the people that have been invited to the feast: this is Chris an belonging. The Church is not the Church only for good people. Do we want to describe who belongs to the Church, to this feast? The sinners. All of us sinners are invited. At this point there is a community that has diverse gi s: one has the gi of prophecy, another of ministry, of teaching. . . We all have quali es and strengths. But each of us brings to the feast a common gi . Each of us is called to par cipate fully in the feast. Chris an existence cannot be understood without this par cipa on. I go to the feast, but I dont go beyond the antechamber, because I want to be only with the three or four people that Im familiar with... You cant do this in the Church! You either par cipate fully or you remain outside. You cant pick and choose: the Church is for everyone, beginning with those Ive already men oned, the most marginalized. It is everyones Church! May the Lord con nue to bless each one of us in the week ahead!

Invitado a qu? Y all qu cosa se hace?

Padre Adrian.
