Dear Parents/Guardians, Students at Pioneer are proposing an idea to the community of Rocky Mountain House to help the people in the Phillipines devastated by the super typhoon, Haiyan the largest storm to ever hit land. The devastating typhoon has affected more than 11 million people in that country, and has left thousands dead, with a death toll that is steadily rising. It is urgent that we move quickly. The Canadian government is matching donations made by individual Canadians to Typhoon Haiyan relief efforts until December 8th. We would like our money to go to the Red Cross where it will be matched dollar for dollar by the government. This money will bring vital relief to the children and families impacted by Typhoon Haiyan by providing lifesaving essentials and emergency supplies like: food, blankets, household supplies, hygiene kits, shelter and clean drinking water. Our plan is as follows: As we did in the aftermath of the Slave Lake fire, we would like to hold a garage sale. Perhaps you just have a few items hanging around your house, not enough for a garage sale of your own. You could drop these items off before November 29th, to Ms. Briners classroom. Because storage will be a problem, the closer to the date of the sale, the better it is for us at the school. In fact, early Saturday morning, after 8:00 a.m. would even be great. The garage sale will be in the student gathering area on Saturday, November 30th from 9:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. If there are any interested parents or students who would like to help with this fundraiser, we would love the assistance. Thanks for your support with this fundraiser. Sincerely, Pioneer School Staff and Students Please contact Ms. Briner @ 403-845-2468 for more information.

BAND NEWS
Band Participation
Some students have been quite forgetful over the past month. When instruments, music or supplies don't come to band a student begins to fall behind quickly. Please make sure your son/daughter is clear on what days of the cycle he/she has band. Another issue is instruments being left in the band room or entry way for days at a time. Regular practice is part of every students mark and is necessary for success on an instrument and for the group. In Grade 7 and 8 students are expected to contribute in this way in order to participate in the extra curricular trips. PIONEER BAND CONCERT - Dec. 10th The concert will feature the Grade 7 and 8 Concert Bands as well as Woodwind Rock. Grade 7 and 8 Band students are reminded that they must have black dress pants and white fitted short sleeve crew neck t-shirts. The uniform requirements were outlined in the band handbook that students received at the beginning of September. Students must have black socks. Vests will be distributed to all Grade 7 and 8 students. Students are expected to arrive at the concert by 6:30 pm to warm- up. See you on December 10th. *Bonus Marks* WCHS Concert - Dec. 3rd Any Grade 6, 7 or 8 band student who attends the West Central High School Band Concert at the West Central High School gym on Tuesday, December 3rd is eligible for Bonus Marks.

BAND PIZZA SALES

On Friday, students will receive a form to sign up for pizza from Panago. You will also be able to download forms from the school website. In the past pizza has been cut into 10 slices. Pioneer Breakfast Club is looking for your help.

Breakfast at school also offers an alternative when, for whatever reason, having breakfast in another environment isn't a healthy choice for children. The number of children who haven't eaten and are utilizing our program has increased this year. We are continuing to look for donations in any form: monetary, jam, healthy cereal, store purchased muffins, bread etc... If you have any questions regarding our program please give the school a call.

THANK YOU A huge thank you to Mrs. Gray for the large box of apples donated. Our students have really enjoyed them.
