SINOPSIS

This course covers sentence patterns and types, paragraph development, transition between ideas, using correct grammar and structure, identifying and correcting common errors, drafting, editing and revising various types of short texts. Students will be actively involved in the process of planning, writing and revising texts to meet their academic and professional needs. (Kursus ini merangkumi pola dan jenis ayat, pembinaan perenggan, penggunaan penanda wacana, penggunaan tatabahasa dan struktur yang betul, mengenal pasti dan membaiki kesilapan yang lazim, penyediaan draf, penyuntingan dan penyemakan semula pelbagai jenis teks ringkas. Pelajar akan terlibat secara aktif dalam proses perancangan, penulisan dan penyemakan semula teks untuk memenuhi keperluan akademik dan profesional mereka.)

Writing Assignment Individual (20%) 500 words opinion essay Submission on Week 13 Students are required to work in a group of 4-5 people and write a 500-word opinion essay (about 3 pages double-spaced) that references at least three articles or news reports. The articles/news reports may be taken from books, journals, newspapers, magazines (printed or online sources). At the end of the essay, there must be a reference section that gives the full citation of these articles.

Self-Directed Learning Activities (15%)

a) Opinion Portfolio Students are required to respond to the article/writing prompt in writing. Students also need to comment or reply to all five (5) topics.

Final Exam (30%) The final exam is divided into 2 sections: a) Section A: multiple choice and/or structured questions b) Section B: opinion essay of 350-450 words based on a given topic.
