Behavior-Based Safety

The Missing Link in Occupational Injury Prevention

by trueventus

2 - 3 September 2013 | Dusit Thani Manila, Philippines

There are at least 3 secrets that most people in the industry dont know about when it comes to Behavior-Based Safety. At the end of this event, you will know the secret of motivating safe behavior, creating a world-class safety culture, and controlling injury rates in your organization.

- Siggi Sigurdsson, International Expert in BBS

TESTIMONIALS

Occupational safety is usually managed by engineering solutions and administrative controls. While these approaches often are a pre-requisite for safe behavior to occur, they are alone not sufficient to sustain a high performance safety culture. The missing link is how to impact safety behavior through the power of consequences. In the widely accepted hierarchy of occupational safety controls, safety is addressed through elimination, substitution, engineering controls, administrative controls, and personal protective equipment. What is missing from this list is how to influence human behavior within these different approaches. For example, how do we ensure that workers actually will do the safe thing if we use administrative controls? Or how do we ensure that workers actually use the personal protective equipment that is made available to them? How do we ensure workers are safe when nobody is watching? The answers to these and other questions will be provided in this workshop.

INDUSTRY OVERVIEW

In tandem with our conference in 2011 the Icelandic Association for Behavior Analysis was fortunate to have Dr. Sigurdsson present a practical workshop. The workshop was very well received as Dr. Sigurdsson is a very energetic and charming presenter. His approach is practical, analytical and solution oriented. He easily engaged the audience in a productive dialog and provided opportunities for practice in group format. A fantastic workshop! Ingibjorg Sveinsdottir, Reykjavik Primary Health Care Centers. I have found Siggi to offer unique and practical insights into organizational issues, whether they are related to occupational safety or industrial/organizational psychology in general. Siggi provides a compelling argument for how you need to combine consequences with your other organizational initiatives to truly achieve outstanding results. He also has the all-important real-world experience to back up his academic insights. Thor Flosason, Kellog.

Do you find yourself wondering why your employees just don't do the safe thing? Should they not care about their safety and act safely all the time? Why does risky behavior continue in your company, and people continue to get hurt? The answer to these questions lies in behavioral science. During this Interacive Training, you will find out the answers to these questions, and acquire the tools to create and maintain a world-class safety culture in your organization. You will learn how to analyze your safety culture, engage your employees, and empower them to act safely through time-tested behavioral science approaches.
