I have 15 years of experience in Civil Engineering, with diversified projects ranging from singlefamily homes to large-scale commercial sites as well as municipal work. My project background and training has given me an in depth understanding of stormwater, wastewater, septic systems, grading, site layout, roadway layout, utility design, pump station design, cost estimates, earthworks calculations, and construction inspections and management. Various critical and challenging projects requiring comprehensive and creative solutions were part of my responsibilities as both as a design engineer and as a construction manager. My responsibilities had me take projects from proposal stage through to construction stage, and included occasional management of staff. My work has required me to coordinate with clients, government agencies, permitting authorities, architects, and engineers in other disciplines. In addition to my background as a private consultant, I have three years of experience in local government as part of a busy Department of Public Works Engineering Division.
Objective:
I am seeking a senior engineering position in the field of Civil Engineering to take on challenging, diversified projects. Work History:
Staff Engineer
Town of Falmouth Massachusetts, Falmouth MA, January 2010 Current Responsibilities: I took on the responsibilities of the Staff Engineer for the Town of Falmouth as well as many duties of the vacant Assistant Town Engineers position. I set up and organized and maintain the office computer filing system, AutoCAD Civil 3D 2009 and 2010, and streamlined, standardized and oversee the permitting process of the Department. I managed several complicated projects under Federal grants. I reviewed plans and calculations for other Town Departments. I advise and offered professional opinions to other Town Departments on engineering topics upon request. I oversaw the construction on several projects. I manage the Roadway Betterment Taking process for the Department. I advise the Highway Division on various stormwater, grading, and site complaints throughout the Town. Example Projects: Surf Drive Parking Lot Designed and permitted a detention basin to handle roadway runoff in an area that frequently flooded due to tidal influences and high groundwater. Several attempts on alleviating the problem were unsuccessful in the past. Bay Road Fish Ladder Replacement Designed, permitted, and managed the project for the replacement of a failing fishway under a Federal Grant. DPW Facilities Stormwater Flooding Designed, permitted, and oversaw installation of an Extended Oil Storage StormCeptor unit in an area prone to flooding and in close proximity to refueling facilities and wetland resource areas. Oversee the yearly AmeriCorps volunteer in developing a Stormwater Program and activities under the current NPDES Permit. Coordinate and manage survey staff in developing Existing Conditions Plans for various Department and Town projects.
Developed a time tracking process for work performed by office staff. The hours spent on projects is kept in an Asset Management interface tied to the Town of Falmouths GIS database.
Senior Engineer
Daylor Consulting Group Inc., Braintree MA, June 1998 January 2008 Responsibilities: I progressed from an entry-level engineer to Senior Engineer as I worked with diversified projects in civil engineering primarily related to residential, and commercial projects, gaining experience in most aspects of land development. This work provided me with in-depth technical experience in the fields of wastewater, environmental permitting, stormwater, and site design. I was project manager, design engineer, CAD drafter, and construction manager while working individually as well as on project teams, and sometimes managed staff. Occasionally the survey department utilized me as a crewmember. I was the IT Department Head and managed two staff members while continuing my engineering responsibilities. I became proficient in HydroCAD, Hydraflow, AutoCAD LDD, custom Excel Spreadsheets for hydraulics and hydrology calculations, and MSWord for preparing reports and presentations. I became a certified soil evaluator and eventually an expert in soils for the purposes of wastewater and stormwater disposal. Example Projects: Cape Cod Nursing Home, Bourne MA-DEP Large Septic System Upgrade (15,000 gpd) using Bioclere units, comminutor, and pressure dosed leaching areas.
