Gun Control

The United States is one of the most dangerous places on the planet when it comes to murder. Firearms are involved in more than 10,000 murders in the US every year. Firearms kill more than 3 people an hour and there is over 250,000,000 guns with one being made every ten seconds. When just these numbers are listed it's no wonder people want strict gun control. In any problem involving guns, the problem would be solved by removing the gun from the equation right? In an ideal society sure, but we're not an ideal society. Banning weapons wouldn't make them non-existant. It would actually make the problems involving firearms worse. It punishes law abiding citizens by denying them protection. While it makes mass muderer's jobs easier because nobody will be carrying any kind of firearm! Although firearms attribute to most murders in the United States, strict gun control will not stop or help reduce murder, theft, or accidents with guns. The Problem is that firearms are used for muder, theft, and are involved with accidents. People who want stricter gun control often bring up that guns at home are more likely to cause an accident than shoot an intruder, having harder to attain guns would make the society safer, and holding a concealed carry would make someone more likely to use it without good cause. All of these are true, but it doesn't prove that increasing gun control will solve all of the current problems with guns. It's true that selfdefence weapons in the home are fourty-three times more likely to shoot a loved one or a family member than an intruder. It's also true that having a society with no attainable firearms would cause people to be less inclined to attempt mass murder like the two students in Columbine, or the two Beltway snipers in Washington D.C., or Larry Philips and Emil Mtsreanu in the North Hollywood shootout. At last it's also true that people carrying a concealed carry would make him/her more inclined to use the weapon without good reason. For example Michael Dunn from Florida fired eight rounds into

Gun Control a van full of teens, whom were playing their radio loudly, simply because he thought he saw a shotgun

being pointed at him. Eight rounds into the van killing one-- and the teens didn't have a weapon, nor did they threaten him in any way. Despite all of these points none of them are a valid reason to increase gun control. It simply would not solve the Problem. The New England Journal of Medicine's study on self-defence weapons is true, but what the study doesn't count for is how many intruders the weapon wards off. Not knowing which house is carrying is a large deterrent of would-be-intruders. Increasing gun control may reduce these accidents, but it would also increase intruders and theft as well as reduce law-abiding citizens' freedom. For having a society that's gun-free entirely is just an ideal that we simply cannot handle. There are already gun-free areas in the United States, one of which was a school named Columbine. Laws in the state disallow selling, obtaining, or carrying firearms, but all the gun control laws did was increase the difficulty of obtaining firearms for law-abiding citizens. It didn't keep the two students of Columbine from getting firearms, and it certainly won't keep other law-breakers from doing so either. For example, a survivor of a gun massacre had both of her parents killed in one of these gun-free zones in Texas. She seems as if she'd want more gun laws, but that would be dramatically wrong. She believes I'm not a victim of guns, but of lawmakers who 'legislated me out of the right to protect myself and my family'. While entering the gun-free zone she decided to leave her concealed carry inside of her car. In which she was in dire need of when a law-breaker with a firearm began methodically executing everyone within the restaurant. If a law abiding citizen had a weapon, the muderer wouldn't have had such an easy time, would he? Restricting people of guns is restricting them of their right to protect themselves. Placing laws to restrict firearms won't keep law-breakers from using firearms. That's why they're called law-breakers! Finally for people using their guns without good reason. Instead of taking

Gun Control guns from them, restricting their right to protect themselves, they should be educated on when they should use their weapon. This not only would keep them from discharging their weapon when

unecessary, but would keep massacres from happening. There's never been a massacre at a gunshow for a reason. Limiting firearms does not decrease their danger, nor does it keep law-breakers from obtaining firearms for massacres, theft, and gang-related activities. In fact the opposite is true, educating people of weapons and allowing for concealed carries would decrease murder, accidents , and even theft. If the United States had a mandatory class like sex education, but not like sex education where it's usually very poorly done, about gun safety at a young age: accidents would be almost non-existant. The United States would also have to require special gun training for concealed carries in order to keep people from using unecessary deadly force like Michael Dunn did. Which removes the problem of people using their weapons when unecessary. And there would be no need for the ideal gunless society, as the law-abiding citizens would keep it in order with their own firearms. On the other hand attempting to ban guns, and inadvertently keeping people ignorant to them, would not remove firearms, would increase murders where the law-abiding victim(s) are helpless, would increase theft for law-abiding victims, and increase accidents because the effects of guns would be about as known as illegal drugs. Banning something just makes the population ignorant to it, as well as to the Problem it was meant to solve. The majority of people think that removing the tool of the problem will remove the problem entirely, which if anything causes this particular problem to get worse. Mainly because you can't set laws for law-breakers. So although firearms attribute to most murders in the United States: strict gun control will not stop or help reduce murder, theft, or accidents with firearms.
