EANGUS NATIONAL CONFERENCE

by Master Sgt Michelle McEntire The annual conference of the Enlisted Association of the National Guard of the United States was hosted by the South Dakota National Guard this year. I attended alongside several other outstanding Guardsmen and retired Guardsmen from Utah. We discussed and voted on several different resolutions that affect the National Guard. My biggest take-away from the conference was from a speech given to the airmen in attendance by the Command Chief of the Air National Guard, Chief Master Sgt. James W. Hotaling. He exhorted us to re-commit ourselves to our profession by focusing on our training and education requirements. By deliberately developing ourselves and our subordinates we will have trained, professional leaders in the Air Guard of the future. He mentioned using EPRs and the Little Brown Book- the Enlisted Force Structure (AFI 36-2618) - as a basis for developing our leadership skills and those of the fledgling leaders around us. Command Chief Hotaling also talked about the health of the Air National Guard and the fact that our personnel are its most important asset. He emphasized taking care of each other, both as wingmen and mentors to others, and to recognize our accomplishments both formally and informally.

I felt privileged to have attended the 2013 EANGUS Conference and to hear Command Chief Hotaling speak. I look forward to attending the conference next year.

UTAH NATIONAL GUARD HOSTS 60TH ANNUAL GOVERNORS DAY

SARATOGA SPRINGS, Utah -The Utah National Guard hosted its 60th annual Governors Day Sept. 14 at Westlake High School in Saratoga Springs. Traditionally, Governors Day is held at Camp Williams, but with significant construction projects taking place there, the event was relocated to Westlake High School. This marks only the fourth time in 60 years that Governors Day was celebrated at a site other than Camp Williams. In 2008-2010 Governors Day was held at Rice-Eccles Stadium at the University of Utah. This Governors Day was the first time Maj. Gen. Jefferson S. Burton, adjutant general of the Utah National Guard, officiated the event. Governor Gary R. Herbert, commander in chief of the Utah National Guard, reviewed his troops in a passand-review ceremony as required by statute and met individual Airmen and Soldiers in person. Events also featured a 19-volley cannon salute to the governor and music provided by the 23rd Army Band. Other activities included equipment displays, climbing wall and food court.

Members of the UTARNG and Jacobsen Construction broke ground Sept. 11, 2013 for the new administration building at Camp Williams.

CAMP WILLIAMS, Utah - The Utah National Guard broke ground for a new administration building at Camp Williams Sept. 11. The new 54,000-square-foot facility will serve as the administrative building, dining facility and classroom building for a soldier housing complex already under construction. Built by Jacobsen Construction, of Salt Lake City, at a cost of $13.9 million, the project is expected to be completed in December 2014.

1457th ENGINEERS DEPART FOR COLORADO

CAMP WILLIAMS, Utah -- Approximately 100 members of the Utah Army National Guards 1457th Engineer Battalion departed Thursday, Sept. 26, for Colorado to transport vehicles and equipment in order to assist in rebuilding efforts following the massive flooding that has occurred in that state in recent weeks. The mission of Task Force Pioneer is to assist the Colorado National Guard with route clearance, route maintenance and debris removal along U.S. Highway 36 in Boulder and Larimer Counties.

Utah Army National Guardsmen form a convoy of trucks and heavy equipment that will be used in rebuilding flood-damaged roads and other assistance for Colorado residents.

RETIRED OR READY TO RETIRE?

There are a few things you should know. Make sure you get signed up with the Veterans Administration. Your health is very important. Its a very easy process and can save you lots of problems in the future. When you are doing all the VA processing make sure you enroll in the My Health eVet program, also. On the website you are able to see all of your Labs, Doctor visits and Prescriptions. You can also order your prescriptions to be mailed to you and this will enable you avoid the lines you may encounter at the VA Pharmacy. The Blue Button is also available on this site. All your medical records can be put here and maintained. Information for you is available at: https://www. myhealth.va.gov/mhv-portal-web/anonymous.portal?_nfpb=true&_page Label=mhvHome Remember you must make sure that your DEERS is up to date as Tricare and Delta Dental are DEERS Driven. In other words, if it is not up to date you could be denied treatment. Another good source to check into is http://www. tricare.mil . At this site you can sign up for Tricare updates and bulletins via email. How about your dental care? Delta Dental has a

great program for Veterans. Its a great program for retirees. Just go to http://www.trdp.org/pro/index.html to get signed up. Did you know that you can enjoy some great vacations? Most of use think Hale Koa in Hawaii when we think of military places to vacation. There are places all over the U.S. That offer great vacation destination. If you go to: http://www.military.com/Travel/ Home/0,13396,,00.html, you can book some great travel. Also, you can join the Armed Forces Vacation Club for some great deals. Just go to http://www.afvclub. com/ . You can fly Space A but you do need to be flexible with your travel. As a retiree you are the lowest on the travel chart. If you opt to travel this way you must be with your dependents. Active duty dependents can fly without you but as a retiree, they cant. You can fly to Joint Base Lewis McCord and visit Seattle almost anytime you want. There are flights from Hill AFB a couple of times a month. They fly out on Friday afternoon and return Sunday afternoon. Its a great weekend get away! I hope this helps you enjoy your retirement. If you know of any retirees that are not members of EANGUT and EANGUS get them to join.

Presidents Corner
Fall is upon us, the National Conference is complete and EANGUT is in full swing with membership drives. The National Conference was a definite success which led to 22 new resolutions our association will pursue for legislative action. They also reaffirmed 8 prior resolutions from 2011. Attendance was minimized due to conference attendance downsizing. This directly impacted Utahs attendance. EANGUT is actively looking to make up the funding gap by sponsoring Soldiers and Airman to attend if these issues continue. Sometime in January, we are anticipating a Soldier and Airman membership competition that will include travel and airfare. By now you are probably feeling the repercussions associated with the congressional budget issues. EANGUS is working to understand all of the associated issues that the National Guard is experiencing due to the budget. I heavily encourage you to identify resolutions to minimize impacts connected to the Guard. For example, we are currently developing a stopgap resolution that will require insurance coverage to extend for a 30 day period in the event a service member on FTNG-D (formerly ADOS) is furloughed. As an association, we cant possibly understand the issues each member experiences. However, we can correct these issues for future generations. If you have resolutions or legislative issues; your points of contact are Brian Cornwell and Raelynn Oman for all resolutions and legislative issues. We have officially hired Bonnie Young as our Executive Director. Please welcome her as she becomes an integral part of our Association. She is responsible for some exciting events through our Corporate Sponsorship program and is focusing her efforts on the program and membership. We are extremely excited to have her on board; look to see her occupying a office at Draper alongside NGAUT in the near future. It is a privilege to announce, EANGUT has partnered with Burt Brothers Tires and Services. They are long-standing military supporters and offer military discounts on the services they provide. Stop by their new Riverton location at 13722 S. Redwood road if you need any maintenance for your vehicles. With this partnership, New Members can sign up with both EANGUT and EANGUS for no cost thru December 31st. Expired Members can renew their membership at a cost of only $10. This is only available to expired members and only for a 1 year renewal; be sure to check up on your membership status soon. This is a great opportunity for you to integrate EANGUT into the lives of your Soldiers. See the ad for further details. Flagship Financial was looking for a way to serve military servicemembers and their families, we have partnered with them to host an annual Christmas Luau. This is currently in the planning stage with more information to follow. If you havent been in touch with our membership chairs to setup a membership booth with your units, please feel free to contact my Vice Presidents, Todd Perry for Army schedules or Joe Guimond for Air Force schedules. My priorities have shifted heavily to aiding and assisting units with membership thru the end of the calendar year. This committee cannot accomplish this alone. I would like to encourage each units training NCO, readiness NCO, admin NCO, Commander and 1SG to leverage these assets as a means to increase your membership. Respectfully, Wyatt D. Burt Brothers Sponsorship

15 October 2013

It is my pleasure, as the President of the Enlisted Association of the National Guard of Utah (EANGUT), to welcome you to the Enlisted Association. The Enlisted Association advocates for your rights both with State and National Legislation. We work pay increases, benefits, changes to legality, and other important issues that will affect you now and in the future. This sponsorship comes at no cost to you for your initial membership period of 1 year. Upon completion of your 1 year membership you will be able to renew annually or become a lifetime member. This sponsorship is made possible by Burt Brothers generous donation to our association. We have invested in you, and would like to provide you with some factual information about what your membership does.

To provide you an example, we have received an annual pay raise each year for the past 10 years. Historically military pay has been behind similar civilian pay rates, and currently still remains there. If you look at an E-5 wage with 10 years of service in 2009, the base pay of that individual for one drill weekend was $374.80, 2010- $387.56, 2011-$393.00, 2012-$399.28, and in 2013. This equates to an average pay increase per year of $7.81 during a drill weekend. Your annual membership costs $11.00 for E1s-E4s, $15.00 for E5s, $20.00 for E6s, and $30.00 for E7-E9. This means that your membership pays for itself in 2 drills solely through the pay raises you have received.

That is only one area that we have worked for you and your career. This year alone there are at least 82 pieces of national legislation involving the National Guard. How many of those have you contacted your representative to support or decline? Invest in your future by maintaining your annual membership in the Association that works to serve you and only you, the Enlisted Soldiers and Airmen of the Utah National Guard. Please let me know if you have any questions, comments or issues. Thank you again for your dedicated service and continual support of the Enlisted Association of the National Guard of Utah.

Respectfully, WYATT D DAVIS 1SG, UTARNG EANGUT President
