This article is about a case in which Brown, the name for the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People, fought against the Board of Education in order to make school settings non-segregated. This important trial took place in the twentieth century and was easily one of the most influential and controversial cases of that time. This article helps my paper a lot because it talks about how education has advanced throughout the years. It's valuable because it goes into detail and even includes a picture, serving as a primary source. Lastly, this article was published in a reference book, so it is very trustworthy information. Duncan, Arne. "America's Kids Need a Better Education Law." US Department of Education Blog. Web. 21 Oct. 2013. This article contains information on a current-day education act, No Child Left Behind. It is an opinionated source about how todays education is decent but could be much better. It will help my project because I will have more evidence providing support for my thesis. I know this source is very reliable because it is featured on the official blog of the US Department of Education and it is written by our current Secretary of Education.

This source gives the reader a lot of perspective about what education was like during the early nineteenth century. It also includes a primary source and two pictures. Because this article contains a primary source, it is reliable. This source is important to my project because it includes information about clashing opinions on Manns Common School Movement. It is written by someone whose education was directly affected by the bill. The perspective given in this article will help me to write a better topic page about the controversy behind NCLB. Because this source comes from a news site, I know that it is trustworthy.

It also includes the eras of education and details of what occurred in every year listed. This source has some evidence of why it is the governments responsibility to provide education - this is why it is beneficial to my project. Also, it incorporates a small amount of information on Beecher as a writer. This source will be very beneficial to my project because I will be able to provide more information about Beecher to my readers. Web. 10 Nov. 2013. This article is critical of the No Child Left Behind Act passed in 2001. It is about the lack of improvement in test scores. Also, it talks about the rules for schools to publish these scores which have been set by the act. This source will help my project because it helps give my readers perspective about the clashing opinions about this act. Web. 26 Sep. 2013. This article gives the reader more information about schooling during the time Horace Mann was living. It provides more information on the Common School and Manns role in it. It compares Mann and Henry Barnard, another scholar pushing for a better school system. This is an important source because it gives a great idea of what it was like to receive an education in the 1800s. It is a very current source and from a dependable site.

It also tells the reader what Mann thought the problems were. Also, it explains how the problems now have still not been solved and remain in Massachusetts today. This source will benefit my project because it provides a lot of evidence and informs the reader on how the flaws that can be found in the education system are challenging to fix.
