1.
Derive an expression to determine the efficiency of a cycle which is working at constant
pressure.( 4marks)-(Diagram -1 mark,Expression-3 marks)
2.
Write the four strokes an engine working at constant volume ( 1 mark )
3.
The minimum pressure and temperature in an Otto cycle are 100 kPa and 27°C. The amount of heat

added to the air per cycle is 1500 kJ/kg.

• (i) Determine the pressures and temperatures at all points of the air standard Otto cycle.

(ii) Also calculate the specific work and thermal efficiency of the cycle for a compression

ratio of 8 : 1. Take for air : cv= 0.72 kJ/kg K, and γ = 1.4.(

4.
The swept volume of a diesel engine working on dual cycle is 0.0053 m 3 and clearance volume is
0.00035m 3 The maximum pressure is 65 bar. Fuel injection ends at 5per cent of the stroke. The
temperature and pressure at the start of the compression are 80°C and0.9 bar. Determine the air
standard efficiency of the cycle. Take γ for air = 1.4 ( 3 marks )
5.
Differentiate E.C engines with I.C engines( 3 marks )
