VF- 35 JSF The VF- JSF (Joint Strike Fighter) is a fighter plane built by Lockeed Martin.

It comes from a single seat, single engine fighter planes, and its the worlds only international 5th generation fighter.

Different F-35 Models The VF-35 has three different models; the only thing that makes them different is their take off and landing variants. For example, the F-35A is for conventional takeoff and landing variant, the F-35B is a short take-off and verticallanding variant, and the F-35C is a carrier-based variant. The 3 models share 80% of the common design, while the 20% is what varies between them.

F-35 MATERIALS Structural composites in the F-35 are 35% of the airframe weight (up from 25% in the F-22). The majority of these are bismaleimide (BMI) and composite epoxy materials. The F-35 will be the first mass produced aircraft to include structural nanocomposites, namely carbon nanotube reinforced epoxy.

F-35 Tail Since the F-35 is a relatively new plane, there was only so much information that I was able to gather, so I did my best job of researching it. The F-35 has a double horizontal and vertical tail configuration in the shape of trapezoidal plates. The total horizontal tail area is 239.1 ft2 for the A-B type, and 283.7 ft2 for the C type. The F-35C has larger wing and tail control surfaces for improved control for carrier landing. As for the tail materials there wasnt much information I could find, except an excerpt from a manufacturing companys published articles. Magellan will produce F-35A horizontal tail assemblies using components that require advanced composite manufacturing, machining capabilities, and strict quality standards. And thinking about the advanced composites that a 5th generation fighter aircraft could use my guess is that they tail materials could also include the structural nanocomposites used in the fuselage.

About The Materials Carbon Nanotube-reinforced Epoxy (CNT Epoxy) Epoxy is both the basic component and the cured end product of epoxy resins. Epoxy formulations are used as adhesives, paints, coatings, and composites. Epoxy is increasingly being used within composite materials as an alternative to traditional materials such as metals, metal alloys and wood. In the aerospace industry, epoxy is being used as a structural matrix material which is then reinforced by fiber. Typical fiber reinforcements include glass, carbon, Kevlar, and boron. Epoxies are also used as structural glue; wood and other 'low-tech' materials are glued with epoxy resin. The objective CNT epoxy is to reinforce epoxy with carbon nanotubes in order to take advantage of CNTs mechanical properties while reducing the weight of materials needed for a specified application. Bismaleimide (BMI) Two kinds of hybrids based on diallyl bisphenol A modified bismaleimide (BMI-BA) and carbon nanotubes (CNTs) or aminated carbon nanotubes (ACNTs) were prepared, their static and dynamic mechanical properties were investigated in detail by using impact and flexural measurements as well as dynamic mechanical analysis (DMA). Results show that these mechanical properties of hybrids greatly depended on the nature (or the functional groups on CNTs) and loading in BMI-BA matrix of hybrids. For example, the BMI-BA/A-CNT hybrid with a desirable amount of A-CNTs has higher impact strength than the original BMI-BA resin.
