PREFACE
This booklet gives the celestial longitude of the
planets Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, Neptune, and
Pluto, as well as the planetoid Chiron and the
Moons North Node (Caput Draconis, the Dragons Head), for the first day of each calendar
month of the 21st Century, plus the years immediately preceding and following; that is, from 2000
to 2101 C.E.
These positions are given in the Sidereal zodiac, using the Fagan-Bradley ayanamsa. This
measurement of the parameters of the zodiac defines the mean longitude of the Vernal Point as
33557'28".64 for the epoch 1950.0. Planetary positions are given for 0h Ephemeris Time (ET) on
the first day of each month. This approximates 0h
Universal Time (Greenwich Mean Time) within a
small variance that, unfortunately, cannot be predicted across the next century, but is expected to
amount to a few minutes at most. Within the scope
of this volume planetary positions at monthly
intervals this difference is negligible.
We have initially created this volume as a tool
for ourselves. Prior to the 21st Century, similar
volumes were available, which became a mainstay
in our practical astrological work. The first was a
slim volume by the astrologer Raphael, tabulating
the monthly longitudinal degree (in the Tropical
zodiac) of Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, and Neptune (Pluto having not yet been discovered when it
was created). Then, in 1975, ephemeris-maker extraordinaire Gene Lockhart created a similar volume for the years 1900-1999, using the Sidereal
zodiac and adding Pluto.
In an era of omniprevalent computers, one
might rightly ask why we would create a new
printed ephemeris. The answer is that we use it
ourselves at least weekly. Sometimes, an offline
printed reference has practical, quick-reference
advantages over even the fastest online tool.
In the present volume, we have elected to make
only a few changes to the proven formula of
Raphael and Lockhart.
First, we have given the planets to the minute
of arc, rather than only the degree. Countless times
in the last 30+ years, we have found ourselves
wishing for just a little more precision in the listings. With todays computers for both calculation
and typesetting, this was a far easier task than it
would have been for our predecessors. On the oth-

er hand, since the main use of this monthly reference is to see broader patterns, the minutes seemed
to provide a bit too much noise against the simplicity desired. We have chosen a typographical
presentation that makes it easier to ignore the
minutes when they are not important, and to have
instant access to them when they are.
We have not included the planet Mars. It
moves so rapidly during a month that it has never
proved terribly useful to us for the main purposes
of a reference such as this, viz., charting long-term
outer planet transits and outer planet sign passages. Any argument for including Mars would also
have substantiated including Venus and Mercury.
We drew the line at the outer planets.
On the other hand, we have included two items
not previously included. One of these is the
Moons North Node, Caput Draconis. Though
considered a minor factor compared to the planets,
it is useful to have a quick reference for its position. (It moves slower than Jupiter, circling the
zodiac in approximately 19 years, so is rightfully
considered one of the slow points.) Most
ephemeredes list only the mean longitude of Caput; we have given the true longitude. The second
added factor is the planetoid Chiron, which lies
between the orbits of Saturn and Uranus, but is
approximately the size of the largest asteroids.
Chiron has caught many astrologers imaginations
in the quarter century since its discovery. Its transits to the primary horoscope positions Sun,
Moon, and angles has marked dramatic shift periods in the lives of people we have studied, points
of time which stand out starkly when one looks
back over the decades of ones life. This vividness
(remembered across time) has not been observed
with its transits to other planets, though the transits
themselves have appeared relevant when observed
at the time they have occurred. Though we are not
prepared to publish anything approaching a final
word on Chirons relevance, it does seem to partake of some of the traits of Uranus and Saturn
between which it lies being substantially a second, quieter Uranus (especially in its sense of
awakener, revealer, or sponsor of change),
commonly marked by a clear sub-theme of
Teacher a term commonly applied to Saturns
transits. The listing is given so that each can make
his or her own evaluation on the subject.

Please note that all factors listed are astronomically real. No fictional planets, unsighted planets,
speculated planets, astrologically deduced planets,
nor NASA satellites have been included.
The five outermost planets of our solar system
have orbital periods of great duration, and spend

longer periods of time in a given constellation. It is

often useful to know these periods. Below are given averages of these times each planet having an
elliptical orbit that takes much longer to pass
through some parts of the zodiac than others:

The Synetic Vernal Point (SVP) is the Sidereal

longitude of the Northern Hemispheres Vernal
Equinoctial Point. The amount that it differs from
0 Aries (the longitude that the VP is defined as
marking in the Tropical zodiac) is called the ayanamsa, or difference between the starting points of
the Tropical and Sidereal models. Adding the ayanamsa to the positions in this ephemeris will give
the Tropical longitude. (Alternately, one can sub-

tract the SVP numerical value, and add one sign.

This is usually much faster.)
The table below gives the SVP at 10-year intervals during the 21st Century (0h ET January 1).
Because the Vernal Point regresses at the rate of
about 50" per year (005' of arc every six years),
its value can be estimated from these numbers to
within a 001' accuracy by adjusting it 005' per
six years.

One of the most common uses of a reference

such as this is in charting longer-term transits to a
natal horoscope. We have added, as an appendix,
concise interpretations of the transits of Pluto,
Neptune, Uranus, Saturn, and Jupiter. These have
all of the advantages and disadvantages of interpretations that are so concise. While they cannot
possibly identify every detail of an event, they
speak primarily to the essence of the experience of
the time. As such, they have also been targeted at

suggesting a positive expression of the energy,

rather than in cataloguing everything that could
possibly go wrong. They can, perhaps, be rightly
criticized as being a bit too Pollyanna in this regard. This choice was seen as the more advantageous imbalance of two extremes. The reader
should have little difficulty reading between the
lines and anticipating the less pleasant manifestations that can arise, in each case, from resisting the
natural current of ones life at the time.

INTERPRETATIONS OF

OUTER PLANET TRANSITS TO NATAL PLANETS

[It is recommended that only the conjunction (0), opposition (180), and square (90) and, to a
lesser extent, the semi-square (45) and sesqui-square (135) be considered between a transiting
planet and a planet in the birth chart. (Please note that the horoscopic Angles neither make nor
receive aspects, other than the conjunction. What are here termed, for convenience, the opposition
and square to the Midheaven and Ascendant are, in fact, conjunctions with other angles. The nomenclature was selected for simplicity.) Under normal circumstances, an orb of no more than 1
should be allowed, with maximum concentration of the effect centered at the time the aspect is exact, and at other times, within the 1 period, when faster planets reinforce and trigger the effect
with their own transiting aspects. If transits are measured entirely in the Sidereal Zodiac, there
will be no need to delete accrued precession in order to get the most accurate measurement.
Within the context of Sidereal Solar and Lunar Returns (Solunars), wider orbs are appropriate for conjunctions, oppositions, and squares occurring in the immediate foreground; that is,
proximate to the angles of the return.]
