Our Commitment To A Sustainable Future

From the design of our vehicles and the way we build them, to how and where we use them, we are committed to sustainable development and reducing our impact on the environment. To this end, we are working in four key areas.

Environmental Technologies
In 2007, we announced a $1.38 billion joint investment into new technologies to improve the environmental performance of our vehicles. In 2008, we revealed our new concept vehicle, the LRX a Land Rover in body and spirit, but conceived as a 2.0-liter diesel/hybrid, with potential CO2 emissions of only 6.8 ounces per mile (120 g/km).

Sustainable Manufacturing
Land Rover vehicles are produced in world-class manufacturing facilities, certied to ISO 14001 environmental management systems standards since 1998. Our manufacturing facilities at Solihull and Halewood have reduced emissions by approximately 4 percent per year over the past ve years. Since 1997, we have reduced emissions in our Solihull plant alone by 30 percent. Some of our engines are even made in a manufacturing plant that is partially powered by wind turbines.

CO2 Offsetting
In 2006, we launched a pioneering program to offset CO2 emissions generated by the production of Land Rover vehicles at both plants. In fact, we were the rst automotive company to offset 100 percent of our manufacturing assembly CO2 emissions. Partnered with specialist organization Climate Care, our offset projects include a wind farm in China, and hydroelectric generators in Tajikistan.

Global Conservation And Humanitarian Projects

Land Rover vehicles are used by conservation and humanitarian organizations around the world, and are often the rst choice for the most difcult tasks. These organizations include the Born Free Foundation, Biosphere Expeditions, Royal Geographical Society (with IBG), China Exploration and Research Society, and Earthwatch Institute. Our projects are diverse, ranging from an initiative to help with the protection of rare wolves in Ethiopia, to a project funded by our CO2 offset program that provides efcient cooking stoves to rural Uganda. In addition, the partnership between the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies and Land Rover aims to generate over $2 million.

We take our responsibility to our planet very seriously, and we encourage all Land Rover owners to do the same.
