3.1 identify major systems in the human body (e.g., musculoskeletal system, digestive system, nervous system, circulatory system) and describe their roles and interrelationships 3.2 describe the basic structure and function of major organs in the respiratory, circulatory, and digestive systems (e.g., we have two lungs; each one is about 2530 cm long and cone-shaped; the right lung is slightly bigger because it has three lobes and the left lung has only two; our lungs are responsible for gas exchanges) 3.4 identify common diseases and the organs and/or body systems that they affect (e.g., epilepsy affects the brain [central nervous system]; appendicitis affects the appendix [digestive system]; asthma and emphysema affect the lungs [respiratory system])

Step 2: Discovery Kids Go to http://kids.discovery.com/tell-me/science/body-systems - Click "More Body Systems" at the bottom left of the page. - Click on each of the following systems and fill out the conceptual graphic organizer called Body Systemps for that section. 1) Nervous system 2) Digestive system 3) Cardiovascular system Find and explain three interesting
Step 3: Kids Health Go to http://teenshealth.org/teen/diseases_conditions - Choose one of the following headings: o Brain & Nervous System, o Digestive System, o Heart & Cardiovascular System, or o Lungs & Respiratory System. - Choose a disease that interests you (e.g. Lungs & Respiratory ! Asthma). - Read about/listen the information. o What is this disease? o How does it develop? o How do doctors treat it? - Watch any videos that pertain to the disease as you go through the article. Make sure you press the continue button at the bottom of the page! Next, - Go back to the main page and scroll down to 'Personal Stories'. - Choose a story of a child or teen who has been affected by the disease you have chosen and watch their video. As you research, fill out the attached table and chart organizer for your information. Step 4: Prezi Presentation Go to - Create a 2-3 minute presentation about what you have learned. - Success Criteria: o A labeled diagram of one human organ system. o A short description of one organ and how it functions in this system. o A short description of one disease that affects this organ, and one real-life story that explains the effects of this disease. o Two to three images that compliment the research. o Well-organized presentation and clear speaking voice.
