A little history about Conducting

The origins of conducting driving back to the voice of the Middle Ages. In later times, with the introduction of accompanying instruments, step to the position of Kapellmeister choirmaster or having to deal with more polyrhythms and polyphony. To overcome these new challenges, a Cane is used, silently or not, to indicate rhythmic group of musicians. Over time, director cane became smaller and agile, making the current baton. In the seventeenth and eighteenth most often they were the composers themselves who directed them simultaneously. When this was not possible, they went to a musician in the orchestra, usually the concertmaster (Konzertmeister) or basso continuo interpreter. Over time, the direction of orchestra was technically and artistically specializing so that in the nineteenth century we find already distinguished conductors that are dedicated solely for that purpose. Great composers lived mainly on his work as a conductor, as Hector Berlioz, Felix Mendelssohn, Ludwig Spohr, Carl Maria von Weber, Richard Wagner, Gustav Mahler and Richard Strauss . The primary duties of the conductor are to unify performers, set the tempo, execute clear preparations and beats, and to listen critically and shape the sound of the ensemble.
